When it comes to modern relationships, the lines between forgiveness and dealbreakers can often get blurred. Recently, Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh sparked an online discussion regarding infidelity, forgiveness, and the complex boundaries of marriage. During a candid promotional interview for her new film ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ with Mashable India, Rakul, along with her co-stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, dove deep into the tricky topic of whether cheating can ever be acceptable in a committed relationship.

The conversation kicked off with a direct question about infidelity, to which Rakul was quick to respond with a firm and uncompromising, “No!” Her co-star Sara Ali Khan immediately chimed in to back her up, stating, “I mean the least you can do is say sorry, but it is definitely not okay.”

However, the dynamic took an interesting turn when Ayushmann Khurrana offered a slightly more nuanced perspective on the matter. “Marriage has its own rules,” he explained. “At the same time, if sorry has been said genuinely, then why not?” This statement left a visibly shocked Rakul reacting with immediate disbelief, asking, “Cheating kar ke?” Defending his viewpoint, Ayushmann reasoned that people are human and make mistakes, suggesting that an apology might truly be genuine.

Trying to find the line, Rakul emphasised that the context heavily matters. “It also depends on what is the extent… What is the extent? If cheating is a habit…” she noted. Before she could even finish her thought, Sara interrupted to ask the million-dollar question: “One-time cheating is okay?”

Rakul instantly clarified her stance, saying, “I am not okay,” prompting both her and Ayushmann to exclaim in unison, “It is not okay! We are clarifying that.” Ayushmann reiterated that, primarily, cheating is simply not acceptable.

Yet, Rakul did elaborate further on her personal philosophy regarding human error and second chances. “But if somebody can have a slip, life is too long to not forgive for one mistake,” she stated. Knowing how quickly words can be misconstrued on the internet, the actress was quick to add a firm disclaimer regarding her own marriage to Jackky Bhagnani: “This doesn't apply to my personal relationship. Please note.”

Ayushmann fully supported her sentiment, adding, “Humans make mistakes. But if they are genuinely apologetic about it, and if you feel for that person… life is too long.” The trio then got into a debate about the aftermath of forgiveness. Sara admitted, “I might forgive but not forget.” Rakul countered this by saying, “But I think if you forgive then you will have to forget.” Sara perfectly summed up the dilemma by concluding, “That's where it gets tricky.”

This intense discussion on relationship dynamics comes hot on the heels of another viral moment involving Rakul and her husband. During a recent interview with Zingabad, Jackky Bhagnani jokingly described their marriage as a “situationship.” He explained his unique choice of words by saying, “We are exclusive to each other because that's why we are married. But the most important thing is that I can talk to her about anything.”

The comment quickly drew widespread reactions and some online misunderstandings, prompting Rakul to take matters into her own hands. She later dropped a playful video where she made Jackky hold his ears as a light-hearted punishment, jokingly scolding him with the words: “Kitne baar bola hai isko, that we are millennials… Gen Z banne ki zarurat nahi hain! Bola tha na.”

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Rakul, Ayushmann and Sara can be currently seen in ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’. The movie, also starring Wamiqa Gabbi, released in theatres on May 15. It has so far made Rs 24 crore in India, as per Sacnilk.
