In a powerful and direct move, Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh has broken her silence surrounding the recent Income Tax (IT) searches that sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry. For days, speculation ran wild after reports surfaced that the IT Department had swept across 12 locations linked to the actress and her father-in-law, heavyweight producer Vashu Bhagnani. Now, Rakul has taken to Instagram to set the record straight, slamming the circulating rumours as “malicious and false”.

The drama began last week when multiple outlets reported that IT officials had launched widespread searches on Monday, September 28th. The rumour mill went into overdrive, with whispers of suspected fund irregularities and allegations that money was being covertly routed abroad under the guise of financing massive film projects. While Vashu Bhagnani remained tight-lipped, not responding to queries about the situation, Rakul Preet Singh decided she had heard enough.
Taking to her Instagram in a detailed and firmly worded note, the Bollywood actress addressed the mounting speculation head-on. She expressed her deep disappointment with how the situation had been handled by certain segments of the media, calling out the rush to publish unverified claims.
“It's heartbreaking to see that there's a growing trend amongst the self-styled online reporters & some mainstream media journalists to sensationalise the news without verifying facts,” Rakul wrote, cutting straight to the heart of the issue. “Let's therefore set the record straight once and for all. The search was not pertaining to me.”
But Rakul didn’t stop there. She meticulously dismantled the accusations, emphasizing her clean track record and long-standing commitment to following the rules.

“Let it be known that I am from the Armed Forces background & had no Godfather in the Industry. I have come up through sheer hard work & as a responsible law-abiding citizen have been paying my due taxes since the age of 20 years,” she asserted proudly.
Addressing the most serious allegations head-on – those concerning illegal foreign remittances for film production – Rakul was unequivocal. “I am not involved in any kind of illegal foreign remittance in personal capacity or on behalf of any Production house,” she clarified.
The Indian actress also strongly denied any claims regarding hidden assets, a rumour that often plagues high-profile figures during such investigations. “I would also add here that I do not hold any Benami property on behalf of anyone anywhere in the country or abroad. Neither ANYONE has EVER gifted me any property at any time nor do I accept such expensive gifts as a principle,” she stated firmly.
In her closing remarks, Rakul Preet Singh appealed directly to the publications that had circulated the rumours, urging them to issue retractions and correct the narrative.
“I urge all those who published these false, malicious and speculative reports to retract them and clarify the facts. I understand that everyone running a media business, however big, has their own commercial pressures. But it cannot come at the cost of facts. And certainly not at the cost of someone's reputation and livelihood,” she concluded.
With this strong statement, Rakul Preet has firmly drawn a line in the sand, defending her hard-earned reputation and challenging the media to prioritise truth over sensationalism.
