Rakul Preet Singh Breaks Her Silence On Jackky Bhagnani Calling Their Marriage A “Situationship”
Rakul Preet Singh called out "clickbait" culture while defending her marriage with Jackky Bhagnani.
In the fast-paced world of digital media, a single word can often spark a viral firestorm. This is exactly what happened when actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani recently described his marriage to actress Rakul Preet Singh as a “situationship”. While social media was quick to speculate on the stability of their union, Rakul Preet has now stepped forward to clear the air, taking a firm stand against sensationalist reporting. Breaking her silence on Friday, Rakul Preet Singh took to Instagram to address the buzz surrounding her husband’s comments.

Posting a clipping of a news article centred on the “situationship” remark, she revealed that the couple actually found the situation quite humorous at first.

“We had a great laugh today about how one line from an hour-long conversation can suddenly become the headline,” Rakul wrote in her IG Story. However, her response quickly turned serious as she addressed the lack of nuance in modern journalism. “Funny... until it’s not. Context matters. Nuance matters. Conversations deserve better than being reduced to clickbait. Maybe it's time platforms take a little more responsibility for the narratives they create,” she added.
Rakul Preet's reaction serves as a reminder that viral snippets often fail to capture the depth of a long-form discussion, especially when it comes to the evolving dynamics of modern relationships.
The controversy began following a joint interview the couple gave to the YouTube channel Zingabad. During the candid chat, Jackky discussed how younger generations are moving away from traditional labels because they want to avoid the “pressure of expectations” and restrictions.
Explaining his own perspective on their marriage, Jackky stated, “Rakul and I are married, but we are like in a situationship, which is, of course, we are exclusive to each other because that's why we are married. But the most important thing is that I can talk to her about anything.”
Jackky’s use of the term was intended to highlight the friendship and freedom within their marriage rather than a lack of commitment. He emphasised that being “best friends” allows them to avoid the “suffocating” feeling often associated with traditional marital roles. He even shared a light-hearted example of their transparency, noting that if an ex-girlfriend calls while he is with Rakul, he feels comfortable taking the call on speakerphone because they have no secrets from each other.
The interview also delved into the couple’s broader philosophy on partnership. Rakul Preet emphasised that their relationship is built on equality and independence. She pointed out that in many traditional marriages, women are often expected to surrender their schedules to accommodate their husbands – a dynamic that does not exist in their household.
“We are equals in every sense,” Rakul explained, adding that they are not looking for each other to “fill a void”. Instead, they are two happy individuals who choose to be even happier together. Jackky echoed this sentiment, debunking the “opposites attract” trope by stating that shared ethics and thought processes are essential for long-term success.
Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani tied the knot on February 24, 2024, in a destination wedding in Goa. Despite the online chatter, the couple seems more secure than ever, choosing to prioritise their friendship and mutual respect over rigid labels.
