Ali Zafar Slams Katrina Kaif’s Post-Pregnancy Body Shaming On Social Media

Katrina Kaif’s return to the public eye after embracing motherhood placed the Bollywood actress at the centre of social media conversation, this time over her appearance. Pakistani actor-singer Ali Zafar has now spoken out against the criticism directed at his former Bollywood co-star, urging people to move away from the culture of judging celebrities based on their looks. Katrina, who welcomed her son Vihaan with Vicky Kaushal in November last year, has largely maintained a low profile since becoming a mother.

Her recent appearance alongside Vicky at Mukesh and Nita Ambani’s Ganpati celebrations marked one of her rare public outings in recent months. Soon after photographs and videos from the celebration surfaced online, some social media users began comparing Katrina’s current appearance with older pictures of the actress. The discussion also included comments about her post-pregnancy body, prompting criticism from several quarters.
Ali Zafar then addressed the online chatter in a video that has surfaced on social media. The actor-singer said he had seen posts comparing Katrina’s appearance from before and after pregnancy and made it clear that he disagrees with such commentary. He also pointed out that speaking against online trolling is something he has done for years, including when Pakistani actresses such as Mahira Khan faced similar treatment.
"We all need to look within ourselves. Especially as a man, if I am speaking about this, I think it is very important for us to look within ourselves and make the necessary corrections. We have all made mistakes in life; no one is perfect. But it is important to recognise those mistakes and correct them. But if we talk man to man, the privilege we assume comes with being a man, and the way we perceive a woman, her body, the way she thinks and the way she lives — if she does not fit the standards that we have created, we immediately put that woman down," the actor said in a video.

"This is wrong; this is not the right way to look at things. Every person is going through their own struggles, and we do not know what someone else might be dealing with. So, we should be kind to people, compassionate, understanding, accepting and appreciative. If you study the renaissance, in the earlier era, concepts about women's bodies were different. Then came a time when women were expected to have a zero figure, and even towards men, the expectations about six-pack abs are not realistic. They are not healthy. It's not healthy to always criticise other people. They are all human beings and we have the potential to be nice to each other," he added.
He also said that he feels ashamed at looking at people judging others on the basis of their appearance. “We all have a past. I will feel ashamed if I ever criticise someone on the basis of their looks. We all must look inside and, as men, we should correct ourselves that we shouldn't do this. Every woman has their life, what she has gone through, what her past, present or future, let her live, and you live your life,” he concluded.
Ali Zafar and Katrina Kaif worked together in 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan', the 2011 romantic comedy that also starred Imran Khan. The film remains one of the notable projects from Ali Zafar’s Hindi film career. Ali Zafar entered Bollywood with 'Tere Bin Laden' in 2010.
Music was also an important part of Ali Zafar’s Bollywood journey. Already known as a singer-songwriter, he contributed several songs to his Hindi films, including 'Madhubala' and 'Nahi Re Nahi'.
His Bollywood career, however, was disrupted amid deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan. Following the 2016 Uri terror attack, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena called for Pakistani artistes to be barred from working in India.
