Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty is going to be conferred with India's highest honour in cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke award. In the latest entertainment news, the announcement was made by Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Railways and Electronics and Information Technology. For the unversed, this award is given for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. The accolade is named after Phalke, the director of 'Raja Harischandra' (1913), India's first full-length feature film. He is also considered as the father of Indian cinema.
"Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema," Ashwini Vaishnaw wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"To be presented at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on Oct 8, 2024," he added.

For the unversed, Mithun Chakraborty has appeared in more than 350 movies, across multiple Indian languages during his nearly five-decade career.
The actor gained widespread recognition for his role in 'Disco Dancer', which released in 1982.
He also received a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Amitabh Bachchan's 'Agneepath', which released in cinemas in 1990.
He has also worked in Bengali, Odia, Bhojpuri, and Telugu movies.
The past winners of Dabasaheb Phalke Award include Amitabh Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Dilip Kumar, Rajinikanth, Asha Parekh, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Shashi Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.
