Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor returned to the big screen this Valentine’s Day with his latest release ‘O Romeo’, co-starring Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar and Avinash Tiwary. The romantic action thriller marks Shahid’s reunion with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, with whom he previously collaborated on critically acclaimed films like ‘Kaminey’ (2009) and ‘Haider’ (2014). While the film opened to mixed reviews from audiences and critics, it has received appreciation from Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.

Taking to social media, Hrithik shared his thoughts on ‘O Romeo’, writing, “The quirkiness of #ORomeo eventually wins you over. I had fun. @shahidkapoor you do this genre BEST. Too good you are. Go watch it in the theatres guys. Also that running in circles action was brilliant.”

Responding to the praise, Shahid expressed his gratitude and said, “Brother saw you debut like a boss when I was still in college and you hit me like lightning. Been loving you since your first. This feels special. Big love so happy you enjoyed the film.”

Meanwhile, the film’s one-week box office report card is out, with ‘O Romeo’ steadily moving towards the Rs 50 crore mark in the domestic market. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the action-romance thriller collected Rs 3.15 crore on Day 7, taking its total collection to Rs 47.15 crore.

On Thursday, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 8.14 per cent. Morning shows began on a slower note with 5.63 per cent occupancy, which improved to 8.27 per cent in the afternoon and 7.86 per cent in the evening. Night shows registered the highest turnout of the day, peaking at 10.80 per cent.

Written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘O Romeo’ draws inspiration from Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. The story follows gangster Ustara, played by Shahid Kapoor, who is forced into exile after killing a don’s brother and later comes to the aid of Afsha Qureshi, also known as Rani Sharma, portrayed by Triptii Dimri.

The film also features an ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Vikrant Massey. Ahead of its theatrical release on February 13, ‘O Romeo’ faced legal trouble after Sanober Shaikh, daughter of Hussain Ustara, filed a petition in a Mumbai court seeking to halt its release, citing lack of consent and objecting to her father’s portrayal as a gangster. However, the court allowed the film to release as scheduled.

Produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, ‘O Romeo’ continues its theatrical run across cinemas.
