Shahid Kapoor's 'O Romeo' Beats Shanaya Kapoor's 'Tu Yaa Main' During Opening Weekend

Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bharadwaj have formed a formidable partnership over the years, giving us classics like 'Kaminey' and 'Haider'. Hence, expectations were sky-high for their fourth and latest collaboration, 'O' Romeo', also starring Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Avinash Tiwary. The film was released in cinemas on Friday, February 13; however, it seems the project has failed to impress both critics and audiences. The Hindi film, reportedly mounted on a budget of Rs 150 crore, failed to set the cash registers ringing in its opening weekend, earning just Rs 30.15 crore.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'O Romeo' earned Rs 8.50 crore on its opening day. On Saturday, which also marked Valentine's Day, the film witnessed a jump in collections, earning Rs 12.65 crore. However, on Sunday, the Shahid-starrer saw a drop, earning just Rs 9 crore, bringing the total collection to just above Rs 30 crore.
O Romeo's opening weekend is better than Shahid's last two releases - 'Deva' and 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya'. 'Deva', released in 2025, earned Rs 19.15 crores on its opening weekend. On the other hand, 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya', which was released in 2024, collected Rs 27.1 crore on its opening weekend.
According to several reports, ratings and reviews for 'O Romeo' have been disabled on the ticketing platform BookMyShow following a court order.
The film is produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. 'O Romeo' also stars Farida Jalal, Vikrant Massey and Disha Patani in important roles.
However, 'O Romeo' has performed significantly better than the other Friday release, 'Tu Yaa Main', starring Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav. The film earned Rs 0.80 crore on Sunday, the third day of its release, taking the total earnings to just Rs 2.85 crore. 'Tu Yaa Main' has been directed by Bejoy Nambiar.
Interestingly, 'Tu Yaa Main' has earned better reviews than 'O Romeo' from the critics.
'Mardaani 3', the Rani Mukerji-starrer, on its 17th day earned more than 'Tu Yaa Main' on Sunday. The former collected Rs 1.05 crore, taking the total collection to Rs 44.20 crore.
