Clarifying his stance, Arijit later assured fans that he is not stepping away from music altogether. “Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music,” he stated. When a fan questioned him, asking him to “justify your inappropriate decision,” the singer responded with humour, replying, “Justify my inappropriate decision!!?” followed by a laughing emoji.

In another tweet, Arijit mentioned that he still has some commitments to fulfil. “I still have to finish some pending commitments, will finish them, so you might get some releases this year,” he shared, offering a small sense of relief to fans.

Social media was flooded with emotional reactions following the announcement. One fan compared the moment to a major sporting shock, writing, “This is a Virat Kohli Test retirement level of shock.” Another user noted, “As he has said, he will be making music, but as a vocalist, he won’t be available. Should’ve selected only a few songs to sing, but it’s his call. I wish him the best.”

Several fans also expressed mixed emotions. One comment read, “Is this legit? Ngl, mixed feelings if true. He has given us generational hits like Tum Hi Ho, Binte Dil, Laal Ishq, etc. I’ll always love and respect him as an artist. But his voice was everywhere, and I was missing versatility.” Another wrote, “Oh man, I thought it was fake. I want this to be fake.”

The announcement also prompted strong reactions from members of the music and film fraternity. Rapper Badshah reacted in just three words, calling Arijit “Sadiyon mein ek.” Singer-composer Amaal Mallik shared an emotional note, writing that film music would never be the same without him and expressing gratitude for being born in Arijit’s era.

Singer B Praak commented, “Fan For Life,” while actor Richa Chadha dropped multiple crying emojis. Actor Lauren Gottlieb praised the move, calling it a celebration of artistic freedom and expressing excitement about what lies ahead.

Tanzanian content creator Kili Paul said he could not imagine blockbuster films without Arijit’s voice, while musician Yashraj Mukhate predicted a new phase of indie music from the singer. Actor Aly Goni echoed fans’ heartbreak with a simple plea: “Nooo bro please nooo.”

Apart from being a playback singer, Arijit Singh is also a composer, music producer and instrumentalist. He began his journey in the music industry after participating in the reality show ‘Fame Gurukul’ in 2005. He made his Hindi film playback debut in 2011 with ‘Phir Mohabbat’ from ‘Murder 2’.

He rose to superstardom with ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from ‘Aashiqui 2’ in 2013, a song that transformed him into a household name. Since then, he has delivered countless hits including ‘Channa Mereya’, ‘Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga’, ‘Kabira’, ‘Gerua’, ‘Jaan Nisaar’, ‘Binte Dil’, ‘Kesariya’, and many more. His illustrious career has earned him multiple accolades, including two National Film Awards, and he was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2025.
