Karan Johar
'Koffee With Karan' first started airing in 2004, and 19 years later, the chat show continues to remain relevant.

Karan Johar is an acclaimed producer and director, and he is known to have very good business sense. Karan Johar, fondly referred to as KJo, has helmed successful projects like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', 'My Name Is Khan', 'Student of the Year', 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil', and 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. Karan Johar is yet to deliver a box office flop, and he has a 100 per cent track record as of now.

The director also runs a production house, Dharma Productions and he has backed several acclaimed movies like 'The Lunchbox', and 'Kapoor & Sons'. However, movies are not the primary reason behind Karan Johar being a massive deal on social media. Karan Johar is a polarising figure in showbiz, you can hate him, or love him, but you definitely can't ignore him. The director and producer knows how to grab the limelight. Over the years, he has judged several reality TV shows, and he even has a chat show in the form of 'Koffee With Karan'.

Talking about 'Koffee With Karan', the show hosted by Karan Johar, first aired in 2004, and the episodes used to be telecast on Star World channel. Over the years, the talk show has managed to gain immense popularity for its candid conversations, celebrity revelations, interesting gossip, and of course, the rapid-fire round.

Over a span of 19 years, 'Koffee With Karan' has managed to go on for eight seasons, and as of now, the number of episodes across these eight seasons stands at 150. Not many people would know but 'Koffee With Karan' is the second longest-running talk show after 'Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan' on Indian Hindi-language television. The show is also one of the most-watched Indian English-language television shows.

The first six seasons used to be telecast on television, but seasons seven and eight opted for only digital release after a streaming exclusive deal with Disney+ Hotstar. But you would be wondering what makes 'Koffee With Karan' so appealing to audiences and why they keep tuning in, whenever a new season arrives.

Well, there are several reasons for that. The show and host really get it right when it comes to having the ability to bring out candid and unfiltered conversations from their guests. Celebrities, ranging from actors to directors and sports personalities, have graced the show, and they have spoken about their real-life issues.

Remember Salman Khan talking about not losing his virginity? Yes, these are the sort of things, guests end up revealing on the show. This is the main reason that 'Koffee With Karan' has managed to be a favourite among the audience, especially the millennials.

The success of a chat show hugely depends on the quality of the host, and whether he is able to strike up conversations to first make the guest comfortable. It is safe to say that Karan Johar has great conversational skills, and his wit and ability to put guests at ease create an atmosphere where celebrities feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, experiences, and even secrets. Karan Johar's interviewing style, mixed with a blend of humor has become the chat show's USP.

Over the years, the show also witnessed its fair share of controversies and memorable moments. From shocking revelations to unexpected confessions, the show has kept audiences on the edge of their seats. Remember when Deepika Padukone advised Ranbir Kapoor to endorse a "condom brand" and when Kangana Ranaut deemed KJo as a "movie mafia" and "flag-bearer of nepotism"?

The show has never had a dull moment, and you can expect fireworks whenever a new season arrives.

For the unversed, the eighth season got underway last week, on October 26, and the first episode saw couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh making an appearance together. The duo unveiled their wedding footage for the first time, and Deepika also revealed that she was seeing other people, until she got engaged to Ranveer.

The episode caused a huge storm, and social media went on overdrive. The episode was hailed as the "best episode of KWK" by some while others criticised Deepika and Ranveer for their revelations. The second episode is also out, and it features Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol, and the duo opened up on their career highs and lows, and their equation with father Dharmendra.

Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt (Season 4, Episode 5)

This episode gave the "Genius of the Year" title to Alia Bhatt, and fans of the show, would know why. When Karan Johar asked "Who is the president of India", Varun Dhawan gave the wrong answer, as he said Manmohan Singh. However, it was Alia Bhatt, who took the cake for the worst possible answer. She replied, "Prithviraj Chauhan." This answer shocked everyone, and Karan Johar was not able to control his laughter. Even Sidharth Malhotra said, "What did you say?"

Emraan Hashmi and Mahesh Bhatt (Season 4, Episode 9)

This was probably the first time that both the guests answered all the questions, and there were several controversial answers. Mahesh Bhatt termed Ranbir Kapoor's 'Barfi' as an "over-rated film", and then he labelled Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an "over-rated director". Mahesh Bhatt referred to Kajol as an "over-rated actress". When the turn of Emraan Hashmi came, he termed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as "plastic". Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna (Season 5, Episode 2)

This was the first time that couple Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna graced the couch together. In the entire episode, Twinkle Khanna roasted Karan Johar, and there was great camaraderie on the show. During the episode, Twinkle Khanna also revealed that her relationship started off as a fling, but Akshay Kumar denied it. When KJo asked, "What does Akshay has that the other Khans doesn't?", and to this, Twinkle replied, "Some extra inches. Don't look at his crotch. It's his feet. Size 12."

In this episode, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif let their guard down, and these two leading actresses had loads of fun. At the end of this particular season, KJo himself said that he had the most fun while shooting this particular episode. And who can forget the special cameo appearance by Arjun Kapoor? Notable mentions:

Kangana Ranaut (Season 5, Episode 16)

This is one episode which left even Karan Johar stunned. Kangana Ranaut who appeared as a guest on the show, accused Karan Johar of nepotism, and termed him as "flag-bearer of nepotism". She also said that the director is fit to play a role of "movie mafia" in another film. After this episode, an entire debate about nepotism started in the film industry, and it still continues to go on.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal (Season 6, Episode 9)

Earlier in Season 6, Katrina Kaif said that she would look good with Vicky Kaushal. When Karan Johar asked Vicky to comment on the same, he said "really", and fell on the couch. The episode deserves a viewing just for that. And now, Katrina and Vicky are married, so safe to say that the love story manifested on the couch.

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul

Sadly, the episode was removed from the online platform Disney+ Hotstar after the huge controversy that was caused. However, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya's answers to certain questions bowled everyone over, and we cannot go without talking about best 'KWK' episodes, without not mentioning this particular episode.
