Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and influencer-actress Akriti Agarwal have decided to go their separate ways, calling off their engagement just six months after an elaborate public proposal. The separation was confirmed on Thursday through a detailed statement on social media, putting an end to weeks of intense speculation regarding the couple's relationship status. Taking to Instagram to share a note announcing the breakup, Akriti revealed that the split was mutual.

“With a heavy heart, I would like to share that my fiancé and I have decided to part ways due to different goals and circumstances for our future,” she wrote.
She further elaborated on the difficult decision, adding, “As much as we love and care for each other, we have come to accept that our paths are not meant to be together. With our responsibilities and circumstances we are currently facing, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways. I genuinely wish nothing but the best, peace, and happiness for both of us as we move forward.”

Urging the public and the media not to spin a negative narrative out of the breakup, Akriti asked for privacy. “I kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this difficult time and refrain from speculating or making assumptions about the reasons behind our decision. Thank you for understanding and respecting our space,” she requested.
The announcement was accompanied by a deeply personal Instagram Story, where she connected her fresh start to the Ganesh Visarjan. “Bappa, I promise that with this visarjan, I will let go of all my sorrow, pain and problems. And when you meet your Akriti next year, I promise you will see a completely different version of me — someone who will choose herself, keep herself as a priority and walk into the next chapter with a stronger heart,” the influencer-actress wrote.
Following the announcement, both stars swiftly moved to cleanse their digital footprints of the relationship. Akriti removed all engagement pictures and several other posts featuring the two. Meanwhile, Prithvi’s Instagram profile currently features just a single post, dating all the way back to 2016. Fans quickly reacted to the news, with one supporter commenting on Akriti's post, “You will find someone who is loyal to you.”
The couple first made headlines on March 8, 2026, when they announced their engagement. The viral photos featured the India batter going down on one knee to propose, followed by a romantic display of their engagement rings. At the time, an ecstatic Prithvi captioned the momentous post: "From sixes on the field to a lifetime of hits off it. She's my perfect innings!"
However, cracks seemingly began to show two months ago when Akriti shared a cryptic note that immediately sparked breakup rumours. At the time, she wrote, “I got cheated so many times, yet I never said a word. Still can't believe that after taking one step ahead… Everything is true every rumour is true. What you see on social media about him.”
As speculation ran wild that the 26-year-old cricketer had cheated on her, Akriti stepped in to shut down the rumours to protect her partner's dignity. Labelling the situation "Misunderstood by many!", she issued a clarification: “Just want to clear something up. I never mentioned my fiancé's name, nor did I say that our engagement was called off or that we had separated. It was unfortunate that many people assumed it was about him.”
She firmly stood by the relationship at the time, stating, “We are happy together, still engaged, and doing absolutely fine. This has also made me realise how easy it is for a public figure's image and reputation to be affected by assumptions. A single post, without any names or context, can lead people to draw conclusions that aren't true.”
The breakup arrives during a turbulent professional period for Prithvi Shaw. After making his India debut in 2018 with a stunning century against the West Indies in his first Test, the right-handed batter has sought to rebuild his standing. He was dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad in October 2024 and currently plays domestic cricket for Maharashtra. During the IPL 2026 auction, he was bought by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 75 lakh in the accelerated round, though he did not play a single match during the 2026 season.
Akriti Agarwal, meanwhile, continues to build her acting portfolio and was last seen on screen in the Telugu film ‘Trimukha’.
