Vijay was sworn-in as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sunday.

It was a day for the history books at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai this past Sunday, as C Joseph Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay) officially took the oath to become the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. But while the political sphere was buzzing with the massive shift in power, the entertainment world had its eyes glued to the front row. Adding a heavy dose of star power and glamour to the momentous occasion was none other than actress Trisha Krishnan.

Arriving at the high-profile ceremony with her mother, Uma Krishnan, by her side, Trisha looked absolutely stunning in a resplendent blue saree. She was all smiles, radiating joy as she witnessed her frequent co-star scale the ultimate political peak.

In what turned out to be one of the most talked-about moments of the entire event, Trisha was seen warmly greeting Vijay’s mother, Shobha Chandrasekhar. Making her way to the front row, the actress shared a brief, affectionate hug with Shobha before the two took their respective seats.

The touching exchange was made even more special by the fact that the swearing-in ceremony fell exactly on Mother’s Day – a poetic coincidence noted by several family members and supporters alike. Vijay’s parents were visibly overjoyed and highly emotional as they watched their son take office, merely two years after he floated his political party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Expressing her immense pride, Shobha confidently stated, “Vijay will lead this well; I have full faith in him.”

Naturally, Trisha’s prominent presence at this family-centric milestone has reignited the intense speculation surrounding her relationship with the new Chief Minister. The celebrated Kollywood duo has shared the screen in numerous blockbusters over the years, starting from ‘Ghilli’ (2004), ‘Thirupaachi’ (2005), ‘Aathi’ (2006), and ‘Kuruvi’ (2008), to their highly celebrated reunion playing husband and wife in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Leo’ (2023). Trisha even featured in the special number ‘Matta’ for Venkat Prabhu's ‘The GOAT’ (2024).

However, off-screen rumours have been dominating the headlines lately. In February, news broke that Vijay's wife, Sangeeta, had filed for divorce, accusing him of an alleged affair with an unnamed actress. Shortly after, in March, Vijay and Trisha sent fans into a frenzy when they were spotted wearing matching outfits at a wedding in Chennai. To date, neither has publicly addressed the relationship rumours.

Beyond the celebrity buzz, the day belonged to Thalapathy Vijay and his political vision. Delivering his highly anticipated maiden address as Chief Minister, Vijay declared the dawn of a new era. He passionately announced that his regime would be deeply committed to “real secularism and social justice”. Emphasising this turning point, he stated, “A fresh, new governance has started and a new era of real, secular, social justice starts now.” His newly appointed cabinet colleagues, Adhav Arjuna and KR Arunraj, echoed this sentiment, making a firm promise that the TVK will deliver entirely transparent governance to the people of Tamil Nadu.

The emotional weight of the day was felt deeply across the film industry as well. Actor Sanam Shetty captured the collective mood of Vijay's ardent supporters while speaking to reporters at the event. Calling it a major breakthrough for state politics, she said, “Even after winning the majority, even after creating a historic moment... the gruelling past week of political dynamic shifts hasn't allowed us to sleep peacefully. Today, we are going to sleep peacefully, dreaming of a better Tamil Nadu in the safe hands of our beloved Thalapathy Joseph Vijay sir.”
