Director Maruthi Confirms Prabhas Is Safe Following Major Earthquake In Japan
Prabhas and producer Shobu Yarlagadda recently went to Japan to promote the release of ‘Baahubali: The Epic’.
Fans of Pan-India star Prabhas can breathe a sigh of relief. The actor, who is currently in Japan to promote the release of ‘Baahubali: The Epic’, is safe following a massive earthquake that struck the country's northern coast on Monday. Prabhas, accompanied by producer Shobu Yarlagadda, travelled to Japan recently ahead of the film’s release there on December 12. Panic spread on social media after reports emerged of a 7.6 magnitude earthquake rocking the region, prompting tsunami warnings.
A concerned fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to point out that Prabhas was still in the country and scheduled to return the following day. The fan wrote, “Japan lo Earthquake and Tsunami warning anta hero akkade unnadu repu return avuthunadu anta (There’s an earthquake and tsunami warning in Japan. Our hero is still there and returning tomorrow).”
Director Maruthi, who is helming Prabhas’ upcoming film ‘The Raja Saab’, quickly stepped in to quell the anxiety. Replying to the fan, he assured every one of the actor's safety, stating, “Spoke to Darling he is not in Tokyo and doing safe no worries.”

According to AFP, the major seismic event occurred late Monday off Misawa on Japan’s Pacific coast. The 7.6 magnitude quake forced evacuations and triggered a tsunami warning from the Japan Meteorological Agency. While one wave reportedly hit a port in the Aomori region, the warning was eventually called off. However, authorities have noted that the country remains on alert for a potential “megaquake”.
Prabhas, the Rebel Star, is in the country to promote ‘Baahubali: The Epic’ – a recut, combined version of the ‘Baahubali’ franchise. While the special version was released in Indian theatres on October 31, it is set to hit screens in Japan on December 12.
The Indian star had a busy 2024, starring in Nag Ashwin’s blockbuster ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ alongside heavyweights like Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. This year, he made a cameo appearance in ‘Kannappa’ and provided a voiceover for ‘Mirai’.
Looking ahead, his slate is packed. He is set to star in ‘The Raja Saab’ and ‘Fauzi’, both scheduled for release next year. Beyond that, his lineup includes Sandeep Reddy Vanga's ‘Spirit’, sequels to ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and ‘Salaar’, and the animated feature ‘Baahubali: The Eternal War – Part 1’.
