Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Stree 2’ Goes Past Rs 400 Crore In India

There is no stopping Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's 'Stree 2' at the box office. The new Hindi movie, which also stars Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi, has now gone past the Rs 400 crore mark. The Amar Kaushik directorial has taken just 12 days to achieve this massive feat. As per early estimates posted by industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Stree 2' earned Rs 18.5 crore on its second Monday, the 12th day of its release. It is important to mention that Monday was a partial holiday owing to Janmashtami 2024.
The total nett domestic collection of 'Stree 2' now stands at Rs 403.05 crore in India. On Monday, the new movie had an overall 29.02 per cent Hindi occupancy.
For the unversed, 'Stree 2' has now also become the second-highest grossing Indian film of 2024, after 'Kalki 2898 AD'. The worldwide collection of 'Stree 2' is nearing the Rs 600 crore mark, as per the makers.
Amid the success of 'Stree 2', a full blown credit war has broken out, and several fans are debating who deserves the credit for the success of the new Hindi movie. While some think that the credit belongs to Shraddha Kapoor, there are others who believe that it is Rajkummar Rao, who did the heavy lifting.
Aparshakti Khurana recently called the tussle for credit "embarrassing."
Speaking to Zoom, he said, "See, this is a PR game. If your channel goes and asks the original audience on the street, are they saying this? I want to know that. So, this is a PR game, and I don’t want to comment on it. I love each and every actor of my film. I am attached to them. In such a happy space, where the film has received so much love and success, this can come across as slightly unpleasant.”
Earlier, 'Stree 2' actor Abhishek Banerjee had said that the film belongs to director Amar Kaushik.
“Stree belongs to Amar Kaushik. No matter how much you fight, or what you do, it’s all pointless. What purpose do all the fights over credit serve? The director is the captain of the ship, and remember that any film, any good performance, whatever you guys are watching, is because of the director."
"It is because he can keep the team connected. Stree 2 is a team film; it’s an ensemble film,” he said further, as reported by The Indian Express.
For the unversed, 'Stree 2' also features cameos by Varun Dhawan, Akshay Kumar, and Tamannaah Bhatia.
As per several reports, 'Stree 2' has already recovered its budget. For the unversed, 'Stree 2' has been mounted on a budget of Rs 120 crore, as per Pinkvilla.
