'Leo' Becomes Vijay's Highest-Grossing Film Worldwide

Despite getting mixed reviews, Vijay-starrer 'Leo' continues to rake in the moolah at the global box office. In the latest entertainment news, the Lokesh Kanagaraj's new Tamil movie has now become Vijay's highest-grossing film worldwide, surpassing his last film, 'Varisu'. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Leo' earned Rs 41.50 crore on Sunday in India, bringing the total domestic nett collection to Rs 181.35 crore. For the unversed, 'Leo' had released in theatres on October 19.
Talking about the worldwide collection, the movie stands at Rs 290 crore, and it is nearing the Rs 300 crore mark.
As per Comscore global chart, 'Leo' debuted at number 3 for the weekend in terms of worldwide box office collection, only behind Martin Scorsese’s 'Killers of The Flower Moon' and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film.
'Leo' grossed Rs 28 crore on Sunday in Tamil Nadu while it Kerala, it earned Rs 8 crore. Talking about Karnataka, 'Leo' minted Rs 5 crore. As per Sacnilk, the movie boasts of an overall 80.28 per cent occupancy in Tamil while the occupancy in Telugu was 47.77 per cent.
Talking about 'Leo', the movie currently holds the record for scripting the biggest-ever opening for any Tamil movie. The Vijay-starrer is also the first film ever to register a double-digit opening in each of the South Indian states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined).
The movie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is also the first Indian film to score Rs 10 crore or more for any day in Kerala.
Upon its release, 'Leo' received mixed reviews. The cast of ‘Leo’ also includes Gautham Menon, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Trisha, Priya Anand, and Mansoor Ali Khan. Anirudh Ravichander of 'Jawan', and 'Jailer' fame, has composed the music for the film.
Arjun and Sanjay Dutt are playing the role of main antagonists in 'Leo'. It is not known whether 'Leo' is based on David Cronenberg’s 'A History of Violence', which had released in 2005.
