Did You Know: Amitabh Bachchan Inspired 'Naa Ready' Song In Vijay-Starrer 'Leo'
'Leo', starring Vijay, is the talk of the town! But did you know this stunning fact?
Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Leo' released in theatres on Thursday, October 19, and the Vijay-starrer continues to be the talk of the town. The new Tamil movie registered a global opening of Rs 140 crore, and hence it beat the likes of 'Jawan' and 'Adipurush' to script the biggest global opening for an Indian film in 2023. However, the new Tamil movie, which also stars Sanjay Dutt and Trisha, has opened to mixed reviews.
But did you know the inspiration behind Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Leo'? You would be shocked to hear that the director found inspiration in the form of Amitabh Bachchan in order to add commercial appeal into 'Leo'.
In a recent interview with senior film journalist Bharadwaj Rangan, Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that the foot-tapping dance number 'Naa Ready' in 'Leo' was created after he was inspired from Amitabh Bachchan's iconic 'Chumma De De' song from the 1990 film 'Hum', which also starred Govinda and Rajinikanth.
Lokesh Kanagaraj then said that he shared the iconic reference with 'Leo' composer Anirudh Ravichander, and the duo aimed to create a party anthem that has the same high-octane vibe as 'Chumma De De' song
For the unversed, in 'Chumma De De' song, Amitabh Bachchan had set the dance floor on fire after he danced to the beats created by the duo of Laxmikant and Pyarelal.
The plots of both 'Hum' and 'Leo' are also loosely similar. Both movies see a man trying to flee his turbulent past.
Talking about 'Leo', the movie currently holds the record for scripting the biggest-ever opening for any Tamil movie. The Vijay-starrer has also become the first film ever to register a double-digit opening in each of the South Indian states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined).
The movie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has also become the first Indian film to score Rs 10 crore or more for any day in Kerala.
Upon its release, 'Leo' received mixed reviews. The cast of ‘Leo’ also includes Gautham Menon, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Trisha, Priya Anand, and Mansoor Ali Khan. Anirudh Ravichander of 'Jawan', and 'Jailer' fame, has composed the music for the film.
Arjun and Sanjay Dutt are playing the role of main antagonists in 'Leo'. It is not known whether 'Leo' is based on David Cronenberg’s 'A History of Violence', which had released in 2005.
