‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ Continues Dream Run, ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ In Doldrums
Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ continues to wreak havoc at the box office, while Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ struggles at the ticket counters.

‘Kantara: Chapter 1’, the prequel to the 2022 smash hit ‘Kantara’, starring and directed by Rishab Shetty, continues to wreak havoc at the box office. The recently released Kannada film, which has also been released in Hindi, Tmail, Telugu and Malayalam languages, has minted more than Rs 200 crore in just four days. The movie earned Rs 61.50 crore on Sunday, the fourth day of its release, taking the total haul to Rs 223.50 crore.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ earned Rs 23 crore on Sunday in just the Hindi language, taking the total Hindi collection to Rs 75 crore in four days. The film earned Rs 18.50 crore on its opening day in Hindi, following it up with collections of Rs 13.50 crore and Rs 20 crore on Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ earned Rs 15.50 crore in Kannada, Rs 11.25 in Telugu, Rs 6.50 crore in Tamil and Rs 4.75 crore in Malayalam. The film has already become the fourth highest-grossing Kannada film of all time and the second highest-grossing Kannada film of 2025, after ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’, which raked in Rs 325.74 crore worldwide.
‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ is all set to go past this figure to emerge as the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2025. The film has already gone past the lifetime collection of movies like ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ and ‘Lokah: Chapter 1’.
The main lead is played by Rishab Shetty in the film and the project also stars Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah in pivotal roles.
On the other hand, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' earned Rs 8.20 crore on Sunday, the fourth day of its release. The film, which also stars Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf, had a below-par extended opening weekend, collecting just Rs 32.12 crore.
The new Hindi film has been produced by Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment, while it has been directed by Shashank Khaitan.
Speaking of the critical reception to the films, 'Kantara: Chapter 1' has received glowing reviews while 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' has opened to underwhelming response from the cinephiles. The Monday collection of both films will go a long way in deciding their lifetime haul at the ticket counters.
