Kartik Aaryan Scores His Lowest Opening In 8 Years As 'Chandu Champion' Takes Slow Start At Box Office

Kartik Aaryan's 'Chandu Champion' has started slowly at the box office. The film now needs to register growth over the weekend to post a good total.

Kartik Aaryan's 'Chandu Champion' has taken a slow start at the box office.

Kabir Khan's 'Chandu Champion', starring Kartik Aaryan in a leading role, has received rave reviews since it was released in cinemas. However, 'Chandu Champion', released worldwide on Friday, June 14, has taken a slow start at the box office and the film needs to register growth over the weekend to post a respectable total. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Chandu Champion' collected Rs 4.75 crore on the opening day of its release.

As per Sacnilk, 'Chandu Champion' had an overall 12.63 per cent Hindi occupancy on Friday.

As a result, Kartik Aaryan has now recorded his lowest opening in the last eight years. Earlier, Kartik Aaryan's 'Shehzada', which tanked at the box office last year, had opened to a collection of Rs 6 crore. 

Kartik Aaryan's 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' in 2018, had minted Rs 6.42 crore on the opening day. Laxman Utekar's 2019 romantic comedy 'Luka Chuppi' collected Rs 8.01 crore on the opening day while Mudassar Aziz's rom-com 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' collected Rs 9.10 crore. 

Imtiaz Ali's 2020 romantic drama 'Love Aaj Kal' opened at Rs 12 crore. 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' collected Rs 14.11 crore on the opening day while last year's 'SatyaPrem Ki Katha' minted Rs 8.25 crore on Day 1. 

Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘Chandu Champion’ narrates the story of a sportsman's resilience and determination. The new Hindi movie is based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medalist in freestyle swimming. Apart from Kartik Aaryan, 'Chandu Champion' also stars Vijay Raaz and Rajpal Yadav. 

The upcoming movie marks Kartik Aaryan’s first project with director Kabir Khan, who is known for helming films like ‘Kabul Express’, ‘New York’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘83’. 'Chandu Champion' has been bankrolled by Sajid Nadiadwala. 

On the work front, Kartik Aaryan will also star in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, alongside Triptii Dimri, Vidya Balan, Rajpal Yadav, and Madhuri Dixit. He will also star in Vishal Bhardwaj’s untitled next.

Kartik Aaryan will also be seen in an untitled project, backed by Karan Johar. The movie was announced last year on Kartik Aaryan’s birthday.

Speaking of Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Verma, and Mona Singh's 'Munjya', which was released in cinemas on June 7, the new Hindi movie minted Rs 3.35 crore on Friday, the 8th day of its release.

The total nett domestic collection of 'Munjya' now stands at Rs 38.65 crore.
