‘Border 2’ Races Ahead Of ‘Gadar 2’ And ‘Dhurandhar’ In Advance Booking Trends
The advance booking for ‘Border 2’ is in full swing with the film trending ahead of ‘Dhurandhar’, ‘War 2’ and other recent successes ahead of its release.
The roar of the lion is back at the box office, and it's louder than ever. Sunny Deol’s highly anticipated war epic, ‘Border 2’, is currently on track for a monumental opening weekend. Since advance bookings opened on Monday morning, the film has witnessed an unprecedented surge in ticket sales, signalling what could be one of the biggest openings in the recent times. Within just over 24 hours of tickets going on sale, ‘Border 2’ has already crossed a gross collection of Rs 2.5 crore for its opening day.
According to data from trade tracking website Sacnilk, the film has already sold over 73,000 tickets across 11,000 shows nationwide. The momentum is only building; as of Tuesday morning, the film is moving at a blistering pace of 2,000 tickets sold per hour on BookMyShow. As exhibitors continue to open more shows across the country, trade experts expect this velocity to increase significantly heading into the release.
What makes the ‘Border 2’ trend truly remarkable is how it stacks up against recent heavy hitters. With three days still to go before its release, the film has already surpassed the total advance booking of Sunny Deol’s previous release, ‘Jaat’, which had collected Rs 2.4 crore and opened at Rs 9 crore net.
More impressively, ‘Border 2’ is currently trending ahead of Sunny Deol’s 2023 mega-blockbuster ‘Gadar 2’, which stood at Rs 2.2 crore at the same stage before going on to a massive Rs 40 crore opening day. It is also comfortably outpacing Ranveer Singh’s recent hit ‘Dhurandhar’, which had recorded Rs 1 crore in advance bookings at this point, and is even moving faster than the pan-India actioner ‘War 2’.
Serving as the long-awaited sequel to J.P. Dutta’s iconic 1997 masterpiece ‘Border’, this 2026 war drama is directed by Anurag Singh. While Sunny Deol returns to lead the charge, the film boasts a powerhouse ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
Produced by the combined forces of Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, the film is strategically timed for a massive Republic Day weekend. ‘Border 2’ is set to hit theatres on January 23, and if current trends are any indication, the box office is in for a historic storm.
