Watch: Sunny Deol Gets Emotional At ‘Border 2’ Teaser Launch In First Appearance Since Father Dharmendra’s Demise
An emotional Sunny Deol made his first public appearance after father Dharmendra’s passing at the ‘Border 2’ teaser launch on Vijay Diwas.
In a moment that was both professional and deeply personal, Bollywood actor Sunny Deol made his first public appearance since the passing of his father, legendary star Dharmendra. The veteran actor passed away recently on November 24. Sunny stepped out to attend the grand teaser launch of his highly anticipated war drama, ‘Border 2’, held in Mumbai on the occasion of Vijay Diwas on Tuesday. The event was attended by the film's star-studded cast, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty.
However, the atmosphere turned poignant when Sunny Deol addressed the gathering. Channelling the intensity of his character, he delivered one of the film’s most powerful dialogues, asking, “Awaaz kahan tak jaani chahiye?” When the audience roared back, “Lahore tak,” Sunny repeated the line with fervour.
Despite the high energy of the moment, what caught everyone’s attention was that the actor was visibly emotional, fighting back tears as he spoke – a testament to the grief he is still processing.
This event marked Sunny Deol’s return to the spotlight following the personal tragedy. Dharmendra had been hospitalised earlier in November due to health issues. Although he was discharged and brought home for recovery – during which time false rumours of his death were dismissed by his wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol – he eventually breathed his last on November 24.
The screen icon was cremated at the Pawan Hans crematorium, with family members and heavyweights of the industry, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan, in attendance to pay their final respects.
Sunny recently honoured his father’s memory on his 90th birth anniversary. Sharing a video of Dharmendra enjoying a view of the mountains, Sunny wrote a touching tribute: “Today is my father’s birthday. Papa is always with me, inside me. Love you, Papa. Miss you.”
Coming back to ‘Border 2’, the film promises to be a cinematic spectacle. Helmed by director Anurag Singh, it is a war drama based on the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The project is a major collaboration, presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series in association with J.P. Dutta’s JP Films. It is backed by producers Bhushan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta.
The movie features a massive ensemble cast. Leading the charge are Diljit Dosanjh, Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty. The supporting cast includes Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, Medha Rana, Angad Singh, Guneet Sandhu, and Paramvir Cheema.
Fans can mark their calendars as ‘Border 2’ is scheduled to hit theatres on January 23, 2026, targeting the patriotic spirit of the Republic Day weekend.
