The dynamic duo of Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan has struck gold once again. Their latest collaboration, the horror-comedy ‘Bhooth Bangla’, is proving to be a formidable force at the domestic box office. Despite the inevitable transition into the working week and tough competition from ‘Dhurandhar 2’, the film has shown remarkable resilience, officially crossing the Rs 70 crore milestone within just five days of its theatrical release. According to data from trade tracker Sacnilk, ‘Bhooth Bangla’ earned a solid Rs 8 crore net in India on its first Tuesday (Day 5).

This follows a steady Monday, where the film collected Rs 6.75 crore, indicating a slight upward trend even on a weekday. The film’s cumulative domestic total now stands at an impressive Rs 72.75 crore.

The journey began with paid premieres a day before the official release, which brought in Rs 3.75 crore. The film then opened to a strong Friday with Rs 12.25 crore, followed by a massive surge over the weekend. Saturday saw collections of Rs 19 crore, while Sunday peaked at Rs 23 crore, cementing the film’s status as a must-watch for family audiences and fans of the genre.

In the increasingly popular horror-comedy universe of Bollywood, ‘Bhooth Bangla’ is holding its own against several recent hits. At the five-day mark, the Akshay Kumar-starrer has comfortably outpaced Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s ‘Bhediya’, which had collected Rs 35.86 crore in the same period. It has also surged ahead of the sleeper hit ‘Munjya’, which stood at Rs 27.40 crore after five days.

However, the film faces stiff competition from the genre's heavyweights. It currently trails slightly behind Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, which raked in Rs 76.27 crore in five days, and the Ayushmann Khurrana-led ‘Thamma’, which secured Rs 78.70 crore in its first five days. Nevertheless, trade analysts suggest that the steady weekday hold could see ‘Bhooth Bangla’ enjoy a long and profitable run.

A significant part of the film’s appeal lies in the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, who previously collaborated on the iconic ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ (2007). Veteran actor Paresh Rawal, a staple in many of their previous hits, expressed his joy at being back on set with the duo. In a recent interview with PTI, Paresh Rawal noted that working with such a talented team actually felt beneficial for his well-being, stating, “This kind of company increases your hemoglobin. Your health improves.”

Paresh Rawal also lauded Priyadarshan’s legendary efficiency as a filmmaker. “I have seen very few directors like him," he said. "If he says that he will finish the shoot in 10 days, then the shoot will be over in nine days. He is a director with that kind of clarity.”

Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films, ‘Bhooth Bangla’ features a stellar ensemble cast including Tabu, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajpal Yadav, Mithila Palkar, and Wamiqa Gabbi.

While the story offers familiar tropes, the execution is where the film shines. The production returned to the Chomu Palace – the same location used for Bhool Bhulaiyaa – which has added a heavy dose of nostalgia for long-time fans. This, combined with Divakar Mani’s rustic cinematography and top-notch VFX, has elevated the film’s visual appeal.

As the film heads toward its second weekend, all eyes are on whether it can maintain this momentum and challenge the lifetime records of the year’s biggest hits. For now, ‘Bhooth Bangla’ remains a clear winner for the makers.
