Varun Dhawan’s ‘Baby John’ Outperformed By ‘Pushpa 2’, ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’. See How Much It Made On Day 1

Varun Dhawan's 'Baby John' released on Christmas 2024.

‘Baby John’, directed by Kalees, released in cinemas on Christmas 2024. Starring Varun Dhawan, Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav, it had an underwhelming opening at the box office. The action entertainer minted only Rs 11.25 crore on the first day of its release, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. ‘Baby John’, which opened to mixed reviews, was outperformed by ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ and ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ on the opening day of its release.

On December 25, 2024, ‘Baby John’ had an overall occupancy of 24.97 per cent. ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, earned Rs 19.50 crore across all languages on December 25, the 21st day of its release.

The Hindi version of ‘Pushpa 2’ earned Rs 15 crore on Wednesday. The total nett domestic collection of ‘Pushpa 2’ now stands at Rs 1,109.60 crore.

On the other hand, ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ earned Rs 13.65 crore on December 25, 2024, the sixth day of its release at the box office. The total nett domestic collection of the film currently stands at Rs 67.25 crore.

For the unversed, Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu have lent their voices to the Hindi and Telugu versions of ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’. SRK's sons Aryan Khan and AbRam have also lent their voices to the Hindi version.

Coming back to ‘Baby John’, the buzz around the film was below average before the release. As per Sacnilk, the Kalees directorial sold just Rs 5 crore worth of tickets in advance for Day 1.

‘Baby John’ is a Hindi adaptation of Atlee's hit Tamil film 'Theri', starring Thalapathy Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson. Atlee and his wife Priya have bankrolled 'Baby John'.

Speaking of Varun Dhawan, 'Baby John' is his first full-length theatrical release after 2022's 'Bhediya'. The Maddock Films-backed production had opened to Rs 7 crore.

Before that, he was seen in romantic drama 'JugJugg Jeeyo' and it had earned Rs 9 crore on the opening day.

Varun Dhawan's biggest opener ‘Kalank’, ironically, is also among his biggest flops. 'Kalank', which also starred Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt and Kunal Kemmu, made Rs 21 crore on day one, but tanked miserably at the box office.
