Richa Chadha Roasts ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ Co-Star Sharmin Segal
Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Shaikh got candid about working on ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has delivered cinematic masterpieces like ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Black’, ‘Goliyan Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, recently made his web series debut with ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. The show was released on Netflix last week. The actors are basking in the praise they are receiving for their performances in the new Netflix series. They are also revisiting some amazing moments from shooting for the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial.
In a recent interview with IMDb, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Taha Shah, Fardeen Khan, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Shaikh got candid about working on ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’.
But what became the highlight of the interaction was when Richa Chadha roasted Sharmin Segal when she claimed to be a great chef.
Talking about the toughest scene, Richa Chadha said, “The script is loosely literally like an instruction. Lajjo does a big final dance, but you don’t know that it is going to be shot over eight days, or how stressful, complicated, difficult or enjoyable it would be. I had no such big responses after reading the script.”
Sharmin Segal added, “There was a scene in which I had to cry for 4 days. I was supposed to cry from morning to night. By the 4th day, my eyes were like potatoes.”
The actress continued, “Dance sequences are probably challenging with Sanjay sir. To reach Sanjay sir’s level of expectation in dance sequences or to even do one percent of what he asks of you is monumental for us. Then we want to go lie down.”
Aditi Rao Hydari also shared that Sharmin Segal was the one who took the longest to get ready on sets.
Reacting to this, Sharmin Segal said, “Aditi is a good schoolgirl. If the teacher says you have to submit the homework at this time, Aditi will do exactly that and not one word more in the essay than the needed word count. So according to her, everyone is late and she is on time.”
Later during the interaction, when Sharmin Segal revealed that she is a great cook, Richa Chadha laughed and said, “What?”
Sharmin Segal then responded that she is a really good cook and the salad she ate in the morning was prepared by her.
Richa Chadha continued to pull her leg and asked if she cut vegetables and did slow claps for her ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ co-star. Sharmin Segal said, “I cook very well. I make proper Christmas lunches.”
Richa Chadha then hilariously said, “I don’t think you and I should sit next to each other.”
Taha Shah, who has become internet’s new favourite after his role as Tajdar in ‘Heermandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, also spoke about his character being changed twice.
Taha Shah shared initially he was supposed to do a three-day long role, but it was later changed to him playing Balraj, which was work for 30 days. However, later Sanjay Leela Bhansali saw something in him and offered him the role of Tajdar.
‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ encompasses themes of love, power, vengeance, and liberation.
Set in the era of India's struggle for independence in the 1940s, this Netflix series explores the cultural nuances of Heeramandi, a red-light district in Lahore known for its courtesans and their clientele. The show’s music is helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
