Ananya Panday recently opened up about the poor box office performance of ‘Liger’, co-starring Vijay Deverakonda.

Ace director-producer Karan Johar recently returned with another season of his wildly popular talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’, bringing you all the industry gossip and more. With just its first episode featuring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, ‘Koffee With Karan 8’ became a huge talking point on social media. The second episode of ‘KWK 8’ saw celebrity sibling duo Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. And the third episode, which dropped on Thursday, featured young actresses Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday grace the ‘Koffee’ couch.

The young Bollywood actresses spoke about a range of topics on ‘KWK 8’ from their movies to their rumoured romances. Ananya Panday, who recently delivered a hit in the form of ‘Dream Girl 2’, also opened up about the poor box office performance of ‘Liger’ on ‘Koffee With Karan 8’.

For the unversed, Ananya Panday made her Telugu debut with Puri Jagannadh’s ‘Liger’, co-starring South heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda. The film was a critical and commercial failure.

During her appearance on ‘KWK 8’, Ananya Panday revealed that among the many people who convinced her to sign ‘Liger’ were her mother Bhavana Panday and Karan Johar. She also spoke about her mother’s reaction to the film.

Ananya Panday recalled her mother's response after she watched ‘Liger’. She told Karan, “She only said Fun!...it was worse than any other reviews.”

Ananya Panday said, “My mom, after Liger, has not… it’s very unlike my mom to not call or message. She was in another country and she’s watching a movie. I know she’s watching the movie. She has not called me or messaged me. I am like Mumma, how is the movie?”

Revealing her mother’s reaction, Ananya Panday said that she only called the movie “fun”.

She further said, “Matlab that was worse than any other review that film could have gotten for me.” Karan Johar asked, “But did she give you a lot of shit on Liger?”

Ananya Panday then said, “She couldn’t because she was one of the many people who did tell me to do that film.” KJo added, “Including me,” to which Ananya Panday replied, “I think everyone makes mistakes.”

While talking more about ‘Liger’, Karan Johar, who jointly produced it, revealed that Sara Ali Khan was approached to do a dance number in it.

"We had asked you to do a song in Liger, which you very politely ran away from. You would have otherwise been in one of the songs of the film," said Karan Johar to Sara Ali Khan, and the latter dodged speaking about it.

For the unversed, the pan-Indian sports drama featured Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role. The Telugu actor made his official Bollywood debut with the multi-lingual project, while Ananya Panday made her South cinema debut.

However, despite being released in theatres in five languages with massive promotional spree, the movie ended up as a critical and commercial disaster.

Meanwhile, Ananya Panday was last seen in ‘Dream Girl 2’ alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. This Hindi film is the biggest hit of Ananya Panday's career so far.

She will soon be making her OTT debut with series 'Call Me Bae' on Amazon Prime Video. Ananya Panday also has a film titled ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ in the pipeline, and it also stars Adarsh Gourav and Siddhant Chaturvedi.
