Bollywood Box Office Report Card 1st Quarter 2024: 'Fighter', 'Shaitaan' Bright Spots In Lukewarm Year
Here's how Bollywood films formed at the box office in the first quarter of 2024.

Considering how Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan, 'Jawan' and 'Dunki, Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal', and Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' performed at the box office in 2023, fans were expecting Bollywood movies in 2024 also to collect massive money at the box office. However, the case is completely different as Bollywood has so far had a mixed bag of a year with several big-budgeted movies tanking at the box office. However, several small-budget films have managed to punch above their weight to collect reasonable amount of money.
In the first four months of 2024, Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor's 'Fighter', Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon's 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya', Ajay Devgn's 'Shaitaan', and Kareena Kapoor-starrer 'Crew' have emerged as box office hits.
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff's 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' and Ajay Devgn's 'Maidaan' have turned out to be colossal disasters.
Speaking of 'Fighter', the Siddharth Anand-directorial collected Rs 212.73 crore in India while 'TBMAUJ' minted Rs 85.16 crore, as per Sacnilk.
Hrithik Roshan's 'Fighter' is the only Hindi film of 2024 to have crossed the Rs 200 crore mark in India.
Ajay Devgn's 'Shaitaan', which also stars Jyotika and R Madhavan, minted Rs 147.89 crore in India. 'Crew', starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kriti Sanon and Tabu, is also nearing the Rs 85 crore mark in India.
Now coming to Eid 2024 releases 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' and 'Maidaan', both films will be unable to recover their reported budgets of Rs 350 crore and Rs 200 crore, respectively. Both films will not be able to even cross the Rs 100 crore mark in India.
Talking about certain small-budget films like 'Laapataa Ladies', 'Article 370', and 'Madgaon Express', all these three movies have emerged as unlikely successful box office stories.
Yami Gautam and Priyamani's 'Article 370', which was released in cinemas in February, managed to collect Rs 78.12 crore in India, as per Sacnilk.
'Madgaon Express' and 'Laapataa Ladies' managed to mint Rs 34.57 crore and Rs 18.95 crore, respectively. The box office collection might not be that much, however, their controlled budget has ensured that these movies walk away as unlikely hits.
