‘Housefull 5’, starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Riteish Deshmukh, and Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, were both released in the same week, sparking a highly anticipated box-office showdown. However, it’s ‘Housefull 5’ that’s dominating the ticket counters, leaving ‘Thug Life’ trailing behind. The new Hindi comedy, which hit theatres on June 6, has crossed the impressive Rs 100 crore mark in just four days, proving to be a massive success at the box office. Fans were expecting a close competition, but it’s clear that ‘Housefull 5’ is currently in the lead.

As per Sacnilk, ‘Housefull 5’ earned Rs 13 crore on Monday, the fourth day of its release, taking the total collection to Rs 100.5 crore. For the unversed, the fifth installment of the comedy franchise was released with two different climaxes in two versions titled ‘Housefull 5A’ and ‘Housefull 5B’.

On Monday, version A had an overall 19.78 per cent Hindi occupancy, while version B recorded an occupancy of 13.02 per cent.

Speaking of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Thug Life’, the film earned Rs 3.62 crore on Monday, the fifth day of its release. The total nett domestic collection now stands at Rs 40.52 crore, according to Sacnilk.

‘Housefull 5’ has been directed by Tarun Mansukhani. Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan are the main suspects for a murder in the film.

The film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Soundarya Sharma, Chitrangada Singh, Shreyas Talpade, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Panday, and more.

Speaking of ‘Thug Life’, the film also stars Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Abhirami in key roles. It recorded a lower opening than Kamal Haasan’s last release, 'Indian 2', and Mani Ratnam’s last film, 'Ponniyin Selvan 2'.

'Indian 2', which was panned by critics and audiences alike, registered an opening of Rs 25.60 crore. Kamal Haasan's last hit was 'Vikram', which was released in 2022. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial started its box office journey with Rs 32 crore and finished its lifetime haul at around Rs 250 crore.

Speaking of Mani Ratnam, his last release 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' had opened at Rs 24 crore and finished its domestic run at Rs 180 crore. The first part of the series opened at Rs 34 crore and finished with a total of Rs 266 crore.

‘Thug Life’ has been impacted severely by the Kannada-Tamil row. The entire matter blew out of proportion after Kamal Haasan made a remark regarding the Kannada language at the film’s audio launch.
