After a gap of 16 years, filmmaker Priyadarshan and Bollywood star Akshay Kumar are teaming up once again for the upcoming horror-comedy ‘Bhooth Bangla’. The makers unveiled the film’s teaser on Thursday, and fans have already begun drawing comparisons with the duo’s iconic 2007 hit ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’. The 1-minute-23-second teaser introduces viewers to a spooky yet humorous world where Akshay Kumar’s character continues cracking jokes despite the presence of supernatural forces.

The blend of horror and comedy, along with Akshay’s trademark comic timing, instantly reminded fans of the Priyadarshan-Akshay collaboration that made ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ such a memorable film.

Check out the teaser of ‘Bhooth Bangla’ here:

The teaser opens with the eerie legend of Vadhusur of Mangalpur, a mysterious entity believed to kill anyone who attempts to get married in the town. The story takes an interesting turn when Akshay’s character inherits a massive palace in Mangalpur – described as being just “two or three rooms short of Buckingham Palace”.

The teaser also introduces a host of characters played by Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, Mithila Palkar, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajesh Sharma and the late Asrani. Although Akshay’s character initially appears sceptical about the existence of ghosts, the teaser hints that he may soon have to reconsider his beliefs.

Overall, the teaser promises a ride filled with laughter, chills and unexpected twists. Fans flooded social media with reactions soon after the teaser dropped, clearly excited to see Akshay Kumar return to his comic roots.

One user wrote on YouTube, “Akshay Kumar’s comic timing is gold.” Several others celebrated the reunion of the actor-director duo. “The OGs Are Back!! The BB Duo Akki × Priyadarshan Reunion = Guaranteed Entertainment!! Waiting For This Madness!” read one enthusiastic comment. Others predicted a massive box office run, posting reactions such as “Records todega” and “Blockbuster loading.”

For those unaware, Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar were not involved in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’. The franchise later moved forward with Anees Bazmee as director and Kartik Aaryan as the lead actor.

‘Bhooth Bangla’ is produced by Ektaa Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures and carries significance for several reasons. It marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan after their last collaboration in the 2010 film ‘Khatta Meetha’. The duo has previously delivered several iconic comedies together, including ‘Hera Pheri’ (2000), ‘Garam Masala’ (2005), ‘Bhagam Bhag’ (2006) and ‘De Dana Dan’ (2009).

The film also brings Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal together on screen after the ‘Hera Pheri 3’ controversy, during which Akshay had taken legal action against Paresh Rawal following the latter’s sudden exit from the project before the matter was eventually dismissed.

Another significant aspect of the film is that it marks legendary actor Asrani’s posthumous appearance. Asrani passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 84. Meanwhile, the project also marks a return of sorts for Rajpal Yadav, whose last theatrical release was overshadowed by the cheque bounce case controversy after he surrendered before Tihar jail authorities.

The story of ‘Bhooth Bangla’ has been written by Aakash Kaushik, while the screenplay is by Priyadarshan, Rohan Shankar and Abilash Nair. Rohan Shankar has penned the dialogues and Pritam has composed the film’s music.

‘Bhooth Bangla’ is scheduled to hit theatres on April 10, 2026. Apart from ‘Bhooth Bangla’, Priyadarshan is also directing Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in another upcoming project titled ‘Haiwaan’.
