Adah Sharma-Starrer ‘The Kerala Story’ Becomes Second Highest Grossing Hindi Film Of 2023, Crosses Rs 150 Crore Mark
Adah Sharma’s recent outing ‘The Kerala Story’ has emerged as the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023.
Adah Sharma’s latest Bollywood movie ‘The Kerala Story’, which opened to underwhelming reviews, is performing extraordinarily well at the domestic box office. ‘The Kerala Story’, which released in theatres on May 5, has been making headlines ever since its trailer came out. The new Hindi movie, also starring Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani, has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark at the box office. ‘The Kerala Story’ has also emerged as the second highest-grossing Hindi movie of 2023.
Indian film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office collection of ‘The Kerala Story’ on Twitter.

According to Taran Adarsh, ‘The Kerala Story’ has overtaken Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’, Salman Khan’s ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’, and Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s ‘Bholaa’.
‘The Kerala Story’ had collected Rs 8.03 crore on May 5 and then the latest Hindi movie collected more than Rs 10 crore on May 6 and 7. Usually, movie collections take a dip on weekdays, but from May 8-12, the Sudipto Sen-directorial collected more than Rs 10 crore, and the first-week collection stood at Rs 81 crore.
It is worth mentioning that ‘The Kerala Story’ managed to make Rs 35 crore during its opening weekend despite facing tough competition from the Marvel film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and the IPL 2023.
While the new Bollywood movie is performing well at the domestic box office, it continues to remain controversial as several people have hit out at its subject matter.
However, veteran actress Shabana Azmi recently tweeted in support of ‘The Kerala Story’, saying once a movie has been passed by CBFC, it should not be banned. For the unversed, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had banned the movie in her state to maintain law and order.
Ever since the trailer of ‘The Kerala Story’ was released, the movie has been embroiled in a controversy regarding the subject matter it is trying to portray. The trailer originally stated that the film is based on the stories of more than 32,000 Kerala women who have allegedly been radicalised by Islamic fundamentalists.
However, amid huge backlash, the makers changed the trailer synopsis, and the revised version stated that the film is based on the “true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala.”
'The Kerala Story' has been directed by Sudipto Sen, while it is bankrolled by Vipul Amrutlal Shah.
