Watch: Uorfi Javed Turns Bananas Into Strapless Mini Dress And The Internet Can’t Look Away
Uorfi Javed turned banana peels into a bold bioplastic mini dress, taking her experimental fashion game to a whole new sustainable level. What do you think of her look?
Uorfi Javed, the undisputed queen of DIY and unconventional fashion, has once again left the internet stunned. Known for pushing the boundaries of what can be considered wearable, Uorfi’s latest project involves an unlikely material found in every kitchen: bananas. In a detailed process video shared on her social media, the fashionista documented her journey from peeling fruit to strutting in a custom-made, eco-conscious mini dress. The video kicked off with Uorfi sitting on her floor, surrounded by bunches of bananas, while her cat lounged nearby.

She revealed that her inspiration came from an AI-generated image of a bright yellow dress made of literal banana peels. However, instead of just pinning skins to a garment, Uorfi decided to take a more scientific approach by creating what she referred to as “bioplastic”.

“Ye AI hai,” she said in the video, pointing to the digital inspiration before diving into her own messy, creative process. Uorfi’s method was far more complex than her usual cut and paste DIYs. She started by peeling dozens of bananas and collecting the skins. The peels were then put into a mixer-grinder and processed into a thick, dark paste. After transferring the mixture to a large pot, Uorfi added agar-agar and glycerine. The concoction was heated until it reached a uniform, gooey consistency.
Uorfi, who can be currently seen as 'Mischief Maker' in Splitsvilla 16, explained that she was attempting to create bioplastic sheets, a sustainable alternative to traditional fabric. Once the mixture was ready, Uorfi and her team poured the dark liquid into various circular and rectangular moulds. These were then placed on her balcony to dry under the sun. Uorfi humorously noted that during the drying phase, the sheets looked exactly like “aam papad”.
However, the transition from papad to plastic wasn't easy. Once dried, the material proved to be quite finicky. The sheets were releasing so much moisture that standard glue failed to hold them together. Because the bioplastic wouldn't stick, Uorfi had to pivot. She ended up hand-stitching small, square-cut pieces of the dried banana material onto a black fabric base.
The end result was a stunning, strapless chocolate-brown mini dress with a sweetheart neckline. The dress featured a mosaic-like texture, with the small squares of banana bioplastic creating a structured, leather-like appearance.
Uorfi styled the look with bold red lipstick, a sleek updo, dangling earrings and a simple pendant. The video also featured a prop banana, which she cheekily peeled and ate during the final reveal.
Her sister, Asfi, added a hilarious bit of behind-the-scenes context in the comments, noting that for weeks, anyone who visited their home thought they were simply drying papads on the balcony, completely unaware that a high-fashion experiment was underway.
While Uorfi admitted the dress could have been better, she expressed pride in her first attempt at using bioplastic. By transforming organic waste into a garment that looks like high-end mosaic leather, Uorfi continues to prove that in her world, fashion has no limits – and no ingredient is off-limits.
