Viral Gold: Vietnamese Waiter Recalls Watching ‘Balika Vadhu’ In Sweet Video, Avika Gor Reacts
A Vietnamese waiter’s love for ‘Balika Vadhu’ and Avika Gor went viral, highlighting the global reach of Indian television.
Indian television has long transcended borders, but a recent viral video from Vietnam has provided a particularly heart-warming reminder of its massive global footprint. The clip features a Vietnamese waiter named Win, whose nostalgic recollection of the iconic show ‘Balika Vadhu’ and its lead star Avika Gor has charmed social media users across the globe. The interaction was captured and shared on Instagram by Juhi Ghodgaonkar, an Indian traveller who struck up a conversation with Win during her visit to a Vietnamese restaurant.
In her post, Juhi tagged Avika Gor, noting how incredibly popular the actress is in Vietnam and describing Win as “the sweetest man” for his enthusiastic discussion about the series.

What began as a casual chat about famous Bollywood stars took an unexpected turn when Win bypassed typical movie icons to express his deep-seated love for the small-screen classic instead. With his eyes lighting up, Win fondly recalled how he and his family were dedicated viewers when the show first premiered back in 2008. He shared a relatable childhood memory of rushing home from school every day just to catch each episode. Interestingly, Win admitted that one of his favourite parts of the show was the “exaggerated expressions” of the actors, which significantly added to his enjoyment of the drama.
‘Balika Vadhu’ became a household name in India for its sensitive portrayal of Anandi, a young child bride navigating the complexities of tradition, social expectations, and change. However, as this video proves, the show’s emotional core resonated far beyond the subcontinent. The post triggered a wave of similar stories from other international fans in the comments section.
One Instagram user noted that the show has a massive following in Bulgaria, while another traveller shared their shock at finding both ‘Balika Vadhu’ and ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’ being watched by locals in Vietnam. A third commenter added that the drama is equally famous in Romania.
The viral moment eventually caught the eye of the original Anandi herself. Avika Gor responded to the video, commenting that the heartfelt moment “made her day”. Another fan added a clever pun to the mix, stating, “Anandi will be Anandit,” implying that the character – and the actress – would be truly happy to see such enduring love from a fan thousands of miles away.
