The release date of Thalapathy Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' is out.

Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated final film, 'Jana Nayagan', could be arriving in Indian theatres earlier than expected. According to an official update shared by a ticketing platform, the release date for the Tamil biggie has been advanced by a day, with the film now expected to hit cinemas across India on July 23 instead of its previously anticipated July 24 release. The makers are yet to officially confirm the change, but if the reports prove accurate, Indian audiences will get to watch the film a day before its overseas debut.

"34 years. 68 films. 68 First Days. All leading to One Last First Day. July 23. @actorvijay returns to the big screen. Tickets on District go live soon. Set your reminder on the app. Annan varaar," the official handle of District Movies wrote on Instagram.

The reported release update comes days after 'Jana Nayagan' finally secured clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was awarded an 'A' certificate on July 9, with its certification details now listed on the CBFC's official portal, bringing an end to a long wait.

Originally submitted for certification in December 2025, the H Vinoth directorial reportedly encountered delays after a member of the examining committee raised concerns about scenes believed to have the potential to hurt public sentiment. The extended certification process made 'Jana Nayagan' one of the most closely watched Tamil film releases of 2026.

The film was initially slated to open on January 9 during the Pongal festive window and was widely billed as Vijay's farewell to cinema before he shifted his focus to politics through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Since then, Vijay has assumed office as the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, adding further significance to what is expected to be his last appearance on the big screen.

Production was also hit by a major setback in April after a high-definition print of the film was leaked online before its theatrical release and certification. The piracy incident prompted an investigation, with authorities later making arrests in connection with the leak.

Produced by Venkat K Narayana under the KVN Productions banner, 'Jana Nayagan' features an ensemble cast led by Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain. The film's technical team includes composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan and editor Pradeep E Ragav.
