Golden Globes 2023: Steven Spielberg Wins Best Director, Motion Picture For 'The Fabelmans'
Golden Globes 2023: Steven Spielberg won Best Director, Motion Picture for 'The Fabelmans'.

Steven Spielberg won his eighth Golden Globe after he took home the Best Director, Motion Picture award for 'The Fabelmans'. This is his first Golden Globe win after 2012's 'Animated For The Adventures of Tintin'. Over a decorated career, Spielberg has been nominated 27 times at the Golden Globes across 47 years and 15 films.
"I’ve been hiding from this story since I was 17 years old. I put a lot of things in my way of this story," said Spielberg in his speech, as reported by Variety.
“Everything I’ve done up to this point has made me ready to finally be honest about the fact that it’s not easy to be a kid. The fact that everybody sees me as a success story… But nobody really knows who we are until we’re courageous enough to tell everyone who we are. And I spent a lot of time trying to figure out when I could tell that story and I figured it out when I turned 74 years old. I said, ‘You better do it now.’ And I’m really, really happy I did," he added.
At the Golden Globes 2023, Spielberg defeated the likes of James Cameron ('Avatar: The Way Of Water'), Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert ('Everything Everywhere All At Once'), Baz Luhrmann ('Elvis'), and Martin McDonagh ('The Banshees of Insherin').
'The Fabelmans' is a semi-autobiographical story loosely based on Spielberg's adolescence and it is told through an original story of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, who is a young aspiring filmmaker, exploring how the power of films can help him see the truth about his family.
The film starred Gabriel LaBelle as Sammy, alongside Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch in supporting roles.
'The Fabelmaans' received five nominations at the 80th Golden Globe Awards, and 11 nominations at the 28th Critics' Choice Awards.
The Golden Globes 2023 are being held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The host for the ceremony is Jerrod Charmichael. The nominations for the ceremony were announced on December 12, 2022. 'The Banshees of Inisherin' lead the nomination list with eight nods, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Director.
When it comes to feature films, 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' has received six nominations while 'Babylon' and 'The Fabelmans' got five nods each.
