Aishwarya Rai handled a red carpet hiccup like a pro.

Even a moment of chaos can’t shake Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s regal aura – and her recent red carpet appearance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival is proof. The Bollywood star, who’s known for her effortless grace and iconic fashion moments, encountered a minor wardrobe mishap when veteran British actress Helen Mirren accidentally stepped on her flowing cape during a photo op. But Aishwarya Rai Bachchan handled it like a queen – smiling, adjusting her outfit with ease, and continuing to pose without missing a beat.

The incident happened on Day 2 of Aishwarya Rai’s Cannes 2025 outing. Dressed in a striking black gown with an elaborately designed white cape, the actress was posing alongside Helen Mirren and model Cara Delevingne. As the trio stood for photos, Helen Mirren inadvertently stepped on Aishwarya’s cape, causing it to slip down her arm and briefly disrupt the moment.

Aishwarya, however, didn’t flinch. She smiled, graciously fixed her cape, and moved right back into position – demonstrating both her professionalism and trademark charm. A video of the moment surfaced on social media.

The internet, of course, loved it. One user wrote, “Wow, she handled it with grace.”

Another one said, “The Camera Man's chanting the name Aishwarya, Aishwarya and Aishwarya.”

A third one added, “Wow. Gorgeous.”

The outfit that sparked all this buzz? A custom Gaurav Gupta creation titled ‘Heiress of a Clam’. Aishwarya wore the gown for the premiere of La Venue de L’avenir (Colors of Time). The look consisted of a black velvet gown, intricately hand-embroidered with bursts of silver, gold, and charcoal hues, topped with micro glass crystals to give it celestial dimension and light. Draped over it was a handwoven ivory Banarasi brocade cape – crafted in Varanasi – with a spiritual touch that caught everyone’s eye.

The standout detail? A Sanskrit shloka from the Bhagavad Gita embroidered near the back of her neck: “Karmanye vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana, Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani.”

Its translation reads: “You have a right to perform your actions, but not to the fruits of those actions. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.”

Designer Gaurav Gupta took to social media to explain the concept behind the look, calling it a blend of “draped form and spiritual detail.”

Aishwarya Rai styled her hair in soft, side-parted waves and added her signature bold red lipstick. Her accessories were kept elegant – drop earrings and floral diamond rings adding just the right sparkle.

This year, Aishwarya’s Cannes fashion choices seem deeply rooted in Indian tradition. Her first look –an ivory Manish Malhotra saree – made headlines for the bold layer of sindoor on her forehead. And her second, this powerful black-and-white Gaurav Gupta look, further reinforced her cultural pride with that meaningful Sanskrit inscription.
