When it comes to owning the Cannes red carpet, Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reigns supreme. The global icon made a majestic return to the 78th Cannes Film Festival, commanding attention in a look that beautifully merged Indian heritage with contemporary couture. Known for her timeless beauty and sartorial elegance, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan once again celebrated Indian craftsmanship on an international stage – this time with a soulful statement in ivory, gold, and rubies.

The actress embraced a classic white handloom saree from Manish Malhotra’s latest collection. Woven in the intricate kadwa technique by master artisans of Varanasi, the ivory Banarasi saree was nothing short of a textile treasure.

Kadwa, a labor-intensive brocade style, requires each motif to be handwoven separately, often using multiple shuttles and threads. The saree featured traditional brocade motifs and delicate hand-embroidered zari work in real chandi (silver), lending the fabric an ethereal gleam.

Draped over her shoulders was a sheer white handwoven tissue dupatta, richly edged with real gold and silver zardozi embroidery. The dupatta's soft transparency contrasted the heavier weave of the saree, creating a balance of grace and grandeur. The overall ensemble marked a refreshing deviation from typical red carpet fashion – it wasn't just nostalgia wrapped in silk, but a bold, couture-forward interpretation of Indian dressing.

Adding a layer of opulence, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan accessorised with over 500 carats of Mozambique rubies and uncut diamonds from Manish Malhotra Jewellery. Her ruby-studded choker, long layered necklaces, and statement rings cascaded across her neckline and hands like royal heirlooms. The jewellery, set in 18k gold, brought a rich crimson contrast to the calm elegance of ivory.

Her beauty look was equally regal yet modern. Aishwarya kept her makeup classic with well-shaped eyebrows, winged eyeliner, mascara-coated lashes, flushed cheeks, beaming highlighter, and a bold red lip shade.

The eternal Bollywood diva’s hair was styled in a sleek, centre-parted cascade of loose waves. A bold stroke of sindoor added a powerful traditional touch.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reached Cannes with her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan on Tuesday. The actress is attending the event as a part of her association with L’Oreal. She has been marking her presence at the French film festival since 2002.

Meanwhile, on the film front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's last project was Mani Ratnam's ‘Ponniyin Selvan: II’. She is yet to announce her next movie.
