Former India cricket captain Bishan Singh Bedi passed away earlier this week. The celebrated left-arm spinner died at the age of 77 on Monday (October 23). For the unversed, Bishan Singh Bedi played 67 Tests for India, in which he scalped 266 wickets, including 14 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul. 2023 was a significant year for Bishan Singh Bedi as he made his first and only movie appearance. Did you know that the late Bishan Singh Bedi made an appearance in R Balki's 'Ghoomer', which starred Saiyami Kher, Abhishek Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi in leading roles.

For the uninitiated, 'Ghoomer' also starred Bishan Singh Bedi's son Angad. The movie tells the story of a young paraplegic cricketer named Anina (Saiyami Kher).

In 'Ghoomer', Bishan Singh Bedi made a cameo appearance as himself, and he ends up giving valuable advice to Anina played by Saiyami Kher.

Speaking to news agency ANI about sharing the screen with his father, Angad Bedi had said in August, “This is a dream come true for me. To be in the same film and credit list of a film together my with father, who is not only a legendary cricketer but also an incredible human being, is an honour. Working alongside Saiyami and Abhishek has been a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait for the audience to witness the magic we have created together.”

'Ghoomer' had its world premiere as the opening movie at the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in August.

Talking about Bishan Singh Bedi, he was a part of India's cricket’s golden quartet of spinners, also featuring Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, and Srinivas Venkataraghavan.

These four spinners formed the core of India’s bowling unit between 1966 and 1978.
