India recently celebrated a massive feat as the country became only the third nation to do a soft landing on the moon. The mission came to fruition on August 23, 2023, as Vikram Lander made a soft landing on the south pole of the moon. Almost two months have passed since the feat was achieved, but there is a mood of celebration still around, and to keep this topic in mind, we have decided to bring a mind-boggling fact in front of you.
Did you know that one can actually buy a plot of land on the moon? Mind blown? Ours was too. Two Bollywood stars in the form of Shah Rukh Khan and the late Sushant Singh Rajput actually own a piece of land on the moon. yes, you heard that right!
It was in 2009 when SRK revealed that an Australian woman had been buying pieces of land every year for him on the moon. As per India TV News, the area in which the piece of land is located, is known as 'Sea of Tranquility'.
The same report stated that 1 acre of land (approximately 43,560 sq ft, or 4,047 sq metres) costs USD $37.50 (Rs 1758.75).
"An Australian lady buys a little land on the moon for me every year on my birthday. She has been buying it for a while now and I get these certificates from the Lunar Republic Society. She writes me colourful emails. I feel blessed to have the love of so many people worldwide," SRK had said while speaking to Zee News.
Later, a fan named Sandi also shared that she indeed bought the land for SRK.
Speaking to Glamsham, the fan said, "Yes, it’s true that I bought a block of land on the Moon for King Khan, as I wanted him to be the first Hindi film hero on the Moon! I want him to always be first with everything.”
"For his birthday in 2002, I had a star in the Scorpius constellation named after him, (which was also a first for a Hindi hero) and the Moon idea was to follow the ASOKA theme of the Sun, the Moon and the Stars," she added.
However, SRK is not the only actor to own a piece of land on the moon. The late Sushant Singh Rajput also owns property there. The property which SSR brought is known as 'Mare Muscoviense' or the 'Sea of Muscovy'.
As per IndiaTimes, SSR had paid Rs 55 lakh to make the property his. For the unversed, Sushant Singh Rajput has always been known for his love for science.
Several reports state that SSR also had a telescope through which he used to check out his property time and again.
