Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ BEATS Lifetime Collection Of ‘Stree 2’

Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna-starrer 'Chhaava' continues to shatter records left, right and centre. The Hindi film, which released in cinemas on February 14, is still going strong at the ticket counters. More than 50 days have passed but the film is still managing to rake in the moolah at the box office. The Laxman Utekar directorial has now become the second-highest grossing Hindi film of all time. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Chhaava' earned Rs 0.35 crore on Monday, the 53rd day of its release.
The total nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 598.90 crore in India. With this, the historical biopic has gone past the lifetime collection of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar rao-starrer 'Stree 2', which had earned Rs 597.99 crore domestically, as per Sacnilk.
The highest-grossing Hindi film remains Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone-starrer 'Jawan', which had earned Rs 640.25 crore in India.
The record for the highest collection in just the Hindi language belongs to Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' as it collected Rs 812.14 crore, as per Sacnilk. Across all languages, 'Pushpa 2' minted Rs 1,234.10 crore in India.
It is important to note that both 'Stree 2' and 'Chhaava' have been bankrolled by the same production house - Maddock Films. It is rumoured that 'Chhaava' will premiere on Netflix this week on Friday, April 11.
On Monday evening, Maddock Films held a success bash in Mumbai to celebrate the box office run of movies like 'Stree 2', 'Chhaava', 'Munjya', 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya' and more.
‘Chhaava’, a period drama, brought to life the legendary story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal. The film portrayed his courageous reign and started with his coronation in 1681.
The film also saw Rashmika Mandanna essaying the role of Maharani Yesubai. Akshaye Khanna featured as Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai.
‘Chhaava’ is an adaptation of the Marathi novel ‘Chhava’ by Shivaji Sawant. The film’s score and soundtrack album were composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also praised the film during his address at the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi.
“Ye Maharashtra aur Mumbai hi hai jisne Marathi filmo ke saath saath, Hindi cinema ko ye unchai di hai. Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai,” PM Modi said.
