Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan' Becomes 2nd-Highest Tamil Opener Of 2024
Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan' has become the second-highest Tamil opener of 2024.
'Vettaiyan', starring Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan and Fahadh Faasil, has resulted in fireworks at the box office. In the latest entertainment news, the new Tamil film has made an excellent start at the box office. 'Vettaiyan' has now taken the second-best opening for a Tamil film in 2024 after Thalapathy Vijay's 'The Greatest Of All Time'.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the new Tamil film, minted Rs 30 crore, across all languages, on the opening day of its release. The film performed best in Tamil Nadu, which alone contributed Rs 26 crore.
The Telugu version, earned a little more than Rs 3 crore. It is important to mention that the Hindi version has not released in the national cinema chains.
'Vettaiyan's opening day collection are underwhelming in comparison to Thalaivar's last release, 'Jailer', which had opened at Rs 48 crore in India.
The new Tamil film has been directed by TJ Gnanavel, who had previously helmed the acclaimed 'Jai Bhim'.
'Vettaiyan' now needs to record steady collections over the weekend. It needs to be seen whether the film manages to collect more than Rs 200 crore at the box office.
Rajinikanth will next be seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Coolie'. Earlier, fans were speculating that 'Coolie' will be a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe, however, the director had clarified that the upcoming Tamil film has nothing to do with his cinematic universe.
For the unversed, Lokesh Cinematic Universe has films like 'Kaithi', 'Vikram', and 'Leo'.
Other than the title, the rest of the cast and crew for 'Coolie' is yet to be revealed.
The shooting for 'Coolie' is slated to begin later this year, and the new Tamil film will be releasing in cinemas in 2025.
