Prabhas' 'Kalki 2898 AD' Dominates As Indian Box Office Tops USD 600 Million In 1st Half Of 2024

'Kalki 2898 AD' has given a much-needed boost to the Indian box office in the first half of 2024.

Nag Ashwin's 'Kalki 2898 AD', starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani has given the much-needed boost to Indian box office in the first half of 2024. As per Variety, the Indian box office has crossed Rs 50 billion (USD 600 million) in gross collections for the first half of 2024. This amount marks a 3 per cent increase from the same period last year. As per data provided by Ormaxe Media, 'Kalki 2898 AD' dominates the local box office, with a USD 92.3 million gross collection.

'Kalki 2898 AD' has contributed 15 per cent of the total box office. Bollywood film 'Fighter', starring Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor is at the second spot in the list with USD 29 million in India while 'Hanu-Man', is at the third spot with USD 28.7 million. 

Suspense-thriller 'Shaitaan', starring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Jyotika is at the fourth spot with USD 21.3 million. The list also has 'Manjummel Boys' (USD 20.3 million) and 'Guntur Kaaram' (USD 17 million). 

The only Hollywood film in the Top 10 list is 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire', and it is placed seventh with USD 16.2 million.

The other films in the list are 'Munjya', 'The Goat Life' and 'Aavesham'. 

The same Ormaxe report also anticipates a strong second half for Indian cinema with a slate of high profile releases such as 'Pushpa 2: The Rule', 'Stree 2', 'Singham Again','“The Greatest of All Time' and 'Devara'. 

Coming back to 'Kalki 2898 AD', the Nag Ashwin directorial is a mix of Hindu mythology set in a dystopian world where Amitabh Bachchan's character has made it his mission to save the unborn child of Deepika Padukone’s character.

For the unversed, 'Kalki 2898 AD' also features cameos by Dulquer Salmaan, SS Rajamouli, Mrunal Thakur, Ram Gopal Varma, and Vijay Deverakonda.

On Tuesday (Day 20 of its release), 'Kalki 2898 AD' minted Rs 5.10 crore, as per Sacnilk. Out of this Rs 5.10 crore, the Hindi version contributed Rs 3.10 crore. The total nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 589.10 crore.

The Hindi version has so far minted Rs 260.10 crore, while the Telugu version has made Rs 268.15 crore. As per the makers, 'Kalki 2898 AD' has registered a worldwide gross box office collection of Rs 1,000 crore.
