Watch: Comedian Roasts Shahid Kapoor For His “Humaare Director Malayalam Hain” Comment
Stand-up comedian Sabareesh Narayanan hilariously roasted Shahid Kapoor for his recent “humaare director Malayalam hain” comment.
Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for the release of his upcoming Hindi film ‘Deva’, which has been directed by Rosshan Andrrews. The Malayalam filmmaker is best known for ‘Mumbai Police’, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. As per several reports, ‘Deva’ is a loose adaptation of ‘Mumbai Police’. However, the makers and Shahid Kapoor continue to state that the Hindi film is an original concept. At the trailer launch event earlier this month, Shahid Kapoor spoke about Rosshan Andrrews, saying, “Humaare director Malayalam hain.”
This comment was labelled tone-deaf by certain social media users, with them schooling Shahid Kapoor for calling a filmmaker from Kerala as “Malayalam”. For the unversed, people from Kerala speak Malayalam and they are called Malayali or Keralite.
Shahid Kapoor has now been hilariously roasted by a stand-up comedian named Sabareesh Narayanan and the video is going insanely viral on social media.
In the video, the comedian said, “Humaare Filmmaker Malayalam hain. Shahid Kapoor Hindi hain. Shahid Kapoor is not speaking Hindi, he is Hindi. National language. How many Malayali movies like Premalu, Bangalore Days, Aavesham, Manjummel Boys, you have to watch and understand that Kerala is the state and Malayalam is the language?”
“People of Kerala are called Keralites and Malayalis. Not Malayalam,” he added.

Soon after the video went viral online, several social media users reacted to it. “Hahahaha this is a good one,” commented one user.
Another user wrote, “I thought he said our filmmaker is from Malayalam. Why do you have to force this North vs South nonsense. Trying hard to find a joke eh?”
“I think most of the north Indians skipped their Social studies chapter mentioning this stuffs because so far majority of them have the same understanding that malayali language not malayalam,” commented another user.
Speaking about ‘Deva’, which also stars Pooja Hegde, the film was earlier slated to release in cinemas on October 11, 2024. However, it was postponed to January 2025. The movie will hit the theatres this Friday, January 31.
‘Deva’ is being bankrolled by Zee Studios and Roy Kapur Films. “I am honoured to be directing DEVA, and I am eager to bring this thrilling story to the screen. With Shahid Kapoor’s exceptional talent and the combined efforts of our fantastic team, I am confident that ‘DEVA’ will offer a unique and enthralling cinematic experience,” director Rosshan Andrrews said in an official statement.
As per the makers of ‘Deva’, the film will delve into the world of a rebellious police officer and how he embarks on a high-profile case.
