Actress and politician Jaya Bachchan is once again grabbing headlines. Jaya Bachchan's response to being addressed by her husband Amitabh Bachchan's name in the Parliament is now going viral on social media. For the unversed, the incident took place in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Budget session. In the latest entertainment news, speculations are rife about family tensions with the Bachchan household and it all started after Aishwarya Rai, along with her daughter Aaradhya, posed separately for the paparazzi at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s recent wedding in Mumbai.
Coming back to Jaya Bachchan, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh addressed Jaya Bachchan using Amitabh as her middle name, saying, “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan ji, please.”
It was then that the Samajwadi Party MP made her displeasure known with this form of address and she responded, saying “Sir, sirf Jaya Bachchan bolte to kaafi hojata.”
When Singh pointed that her name is listed as "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan" in the official records, Jaya Bachchan said, "Ye jo hain kuch naya tarika hain ki mahilaayen apni pati ke naam se jaani jaye. Unka koi astitva nahi. Unki koi upalabdhi nahi hain, apne mein aur astitva nahi hain. Ye jo naya shuru hua hain."

This video has now sparked mixed reactions on social media.
"We may have our differences with Jaya Bachchan, but she is known as Jaya Bhaduri first and Jaya Bachchan later. She has had a very strong identity separate from her husband. In fact, there was a time when she was more known than her husband. So she could have easily reached the Parliament, had she wanted to use her own name,” one user wrote.
“She’s not wrong in any sense btw,” wrote another user.
While another user said," Jaya Bachchan just knows how to make a mountain out of a molehill."
For the unversed, Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan tied the knot on June 3, 1973. The duo are parents to two children -- Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.
Jaya Bachchan has been a Rajya Sabha MP from Samajwadi Party, since 2004. She is currently serving her fifth term in the Upper House.
