Hema Malini got emotional while talking about her late husband Dharmendra during his prayer meet.

Weeks after the passing of legendary actor Dharmendra, his wife and veteran actress-politician Hema Malini organised a separate prayer meeting on December 11 to honour his legacy. While the earlier prayer meet on November 27 was organised by his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, this ceremony was helmed by Hema and her daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol. The solemn gathering saw the attendance of several high-profile political figures, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Kiren Rijiju, who came to pay their last respects to the cinema icon.

Hema Malini, flanked by her daughters on stage, delivered a moving speech describing the “inconsolable shock” of losing her companion. Recalling their journey, she said, “Jis shakhs ke saath maine kai filmon mein pyaar ka abhinay kiya, wahi mere jeevansaathi ban gaye. Humara pyaar sachcha tha, toh hum kisi bhi paristhiti ka saamna karne ki himmat thi. Hum dono ne shaadi ki. Woh mere liye ek bohot hi samarpeet jeevansaathi baney.”

She described Dharmendra as a devoted husband and a pillar of strength who stood by her through every decision. “Woh mere liye prernadayak ek mazboot stambh bankar har shan, har kadam pe mere saath khadey rahe. Mere har nirnay mein unki sammati rahi. Meri dono betiyan, Esha aur Ahana, inke liye ek vaatsalya ke bhare ek pita bane. Bohot pyaar diya, aur unko sahi samay par unki shaadi bhi karayi,” she added.

Hema also touched upon Dharmendra’s bond with their five grandchildren, sharing a heartwarming anecdote. “Hamare paanch grandchildren, unke liye bohot pyaare nanu bankar… bohot pyaar karte the… Dharam ji unhe dekhkar itne khush ho jaate the. Humse kehte ki ye hamari ek sundar phoolwadi he jise pyaar aur sahaj kar rakhna,” she recalled.

In a heartbreaking revelation, Hema Malini disclosed Dharmendra’s unfinished dream. The actor, known for his love of poetry, wanted to compile his verses into a book.

“Over time, a hidden aspect of his personality emerged… jab woh Urdi ki Shayari karne lage. Unki khaas baat yahi thi koi bhi paristithi ho woh uske anusar turant ek sher suna dete the...yeh unki khoobi thi. I often told him he should write a book - his fans would have loved it. So, he was very serious about it and was planning everything but woh kaam par adhura reh gaya,” Hema added.

Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at the age of 89, just days shy of his 90th birthday. While Sunny and Bobby Deol organised a prayer meet on November 27, Hema and her daughters did not attend that event. Instead, Hema held a private ceremony at her residence that same day, followed by this larger public prayer meet on December 11.

The legendary actor, who was hospitalized at Breach Candy Hospital before his passing, was cremated on November 25. Fans will get to see him on the big screen one last time in the upcoming war drama ‘Ikkis’, starring Agastya Nanda.
