Among the pictures shared, one particularly sweet moment captured Kajol affectionately kissing her mother Tanuja on the head as Tanishaa embraced them both. For the puja inauguration, Kajol opted for traditional elegance in a gold dual-tone fusion saree paired with a vibrant red blouse, keeping her hair open and her makeup minimal. Tanishaa complemented the festive aesthetic in a blue printed saree. The sisters were also pictured posing for a complete family portrait alongside their cousins, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and actress Sharbani Mukherji, along with other extended family members.

A video shared by Kajol captured the grand unveiling ceremony of the Goddess Durga idol as dramatic sparkler fountains lit up the sanctum. Kajol was visibly delighted, dancing with excitement and showering flower petals toward the idol to welcome the goddess.

Tanishaa Mukerji shared her own set of pictures from the gathering on social media, writing: "Favourite time of the year... Maa Aasche !! Durga Maa ki joi!!"

The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja holds one of Mumbai’s most enduring cultural legacies. Founded in 1948 by pioneer filmmaker and Filmalaya Studio founder Sashadhar Mukherjee, alongside his wife Satirani Mukerji, J. M. Bhadra, and 26 other members, the celebration originally began at Santacruz’s Sri Mandal Hall (Poddar School). Over the decades, as footfall expanded, the venue shifted to the Tulip Star Hotel in Juhu before moving to its current location near SNDT Women's University in Juhu, Mumbai.

This year’s milestone 80th edition also carries an emotional, bittersweet undertone for the family. The puja was previously steered and closely managed by veteran actor Deb Mukherjee – father to director Ayan Mukerji – before his passing in March 2025. The family experienced another major bereavement recently when Krishna Mukherjee, mother of actress Rani Mukerji, passed away on September 22, 2026. While Rani Mukerji has long been a constant fixture at the annual gathering, she might skip the celebrations this year due to the recent loss.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Kajol will next be seen headlining the action thriller ‘Maharagni: Queen Of Queens’. Directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati, the film boasts an ensemble cast including Prabhu Deva, Naseeruddin Shah, and Jisshu Sengupta, with details and release date set to be announced soon.
