SYNOPSIS

Prithipal Singh... A Story (2015) is a Hindi biographical docudrama that explores the extraordinary and tragic life of Indian field hockey legend Prithipal Singh. Directed by Babita Puri and released on October 30, 2015, the film stars Vikas Kumar in the title role. 

Plot and Themes
The movie captures the duality of Prithipal Singh's life, moving from his athletic triumphs to his untimely death.

The Olympic Legend: It highlights his journey as an Olympic champion who won three medals: Gold (Tokyo 1964), Silver (Rome 1960), and Bronze (Mexico 1968). Known as the "King of short corner," he was a formidable force on the field.

Personal Struggles: The narrative touches upon his experiences as a survivor of the 1947 Partition, his struggles to rebuild his life, and his eventual transition from a player to a sports administrator.

The Tragedy: A significant portion of the film deals with his tenure as the Director of Youth Welfare at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), where he was tragically shot and killed in broad daylight by his own students in 1983.

Legacy of Prithipal Singh
Prithipal Singh was the first-ever recipient of the Arjuna Award in 1961 and was later honoured with the Padma Shri in 1967 for his contributions to Indian sports. Despite his legendary status, his death remains one of the darkest chapters in Indian sports history, as no witnesses came forward during the trial.
