Speaking about the upcoming season, Hansal Mehta, “Scam is not just a franchise for me. It is a chronicling of our times. I’m thrilled to collaborate again with Applause and Sony LIV to bring this larger than life story alive.”
For the unversed, Subrata Roy was the founder of the Sahara group of businesses. The businessman was arrested on the account of investor fraud and for many chit fund schemes collecting money from people living below the poverty line.
He was arrested in 2014 and stayed in jail for two years. Subrata Roy later came out on parole in 2016. He was then arrested again as Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) asked Supreme Court to cancel his parole. Subrata Roy passed away in November 2023 at 75.
Based on the book, ‘Sahara: the Untold Story by Tamal Bandyopadhyay’, the series will be produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Studio Next.
This will be the third season of the ‘Scam’ series franchise. ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ was one of the biggest hits of 2020 and marked actor Pratik Gandhi’s breakout role. This was followed by ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story’, which focused on the story of Abdul Karim Telgi.
Currently, Hansal Mehta is working on his upcoming web series ‘Gandhi’, which stars Pratik Gandhi in the role of Mahatma Gandhi with the actor’s wife Bhamini Oza playing the role of Kasturba Gandhi.
In a chat with Variety, Hansal Mehta spoke about the show and said, “We’re not trying to deify Gandhi, we see his story as a human story.”
He also added, “The biggest learning from all that is, however great the man is, you treat him like a human being first. And look at the person with his flaws… and you build that character. Either you make him into a deity or make him a demon, we’re not doing that.”
