Watch: Ashneer Grover’s Wife Madhuri Faces Massive Online Fury Over “Elitist” Childbirth Remark On ‘Lock Upp 2’
Madhuri Jain Grover landed in controversy after her comments linking wealth, poverty and parenthood triggered fierce online backlash.
Reality television is no stranger to controversy, but the Netflix show ‘Lock Upp 2: Sach Ya Sazaa’ just delivered a moment that has left the internet absolutely furious. Madhuri Jain Grover, entrepreneur and wife of businessman Ashneer Grover, has ignited a massive social media storm following a highly controversial statement about class, wealth, and childbirth. The explosive drama unfolded during the latest Judgement Day episode. Hosted by Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh – and featuring season one's OG host Kangana Ranaut as a special guest – the tension was palpable.
Madhuri found herself in the dreaded bottom three, fighting for survival in the game alongside Akanksha Chamola and Shresta Iyer. In a desperate bid to save herself from elimination, Madhuri opted to use the show's lifeline: revealing a deeply personal secret to the world.
Madhuri confessed that she and Ashneer Grover had once strongly desired a third child. However, she explained that family opposition and poor timing eventually stopped them from expanding their family. While the secret itself was fairly standard reality TV fare, it was her follow-up justification that took the internet by storm.
Defending her desire for a larger family, Madhuri stated on the show: “The third child keeps you younger. If you see all the rich people, including Shah Rukh Khan, they have a third child. This concept of ‘Hum do humare do’ doesn’t apply to everyone. Jitne ameer log bacche paida karenge toh ameeri badhegi, gareeb paida karenge to gareebi badhegi.”

Within hours of the episode dropping, clips of her statement began circulating widely across social media platforms, with users debating whether the remark reflected economic reality, class privilege, or something far more problematic. Furious netizens tore into the reality TV star, criticising her for lacking empathy and reducing human life to a bank balance.
One user sharply criticised her financial logic, writing: “Basically, She is unaware of the concept of highly unequal distribution of income in our country….and lack of basic economics knowledge required here.”
Another furious viewer did not mince their words, dropping a heavy comment that read: “What she said is a harsh reality of the country but you need to be a big du*bf**k for saying I am rich so I am entitled to have a third child, on a public platform.”
The backlash quickly escalated, with several viewers pointing out the dangerous undertones of her logic and accusing the statement of echoing “elitist” and eugenic ideas. “Her statement is based on the theory of Eugenics. By that same standard, she herself will be poorer than many others, and then will not be allowed to breed," one viral reaction said.
Other users echoed this sentiment, with one adding, "Shame on Madhuri Ashneer Grover. Her statement is elitism at its ugliest... implying that dignity, family and the right to reproduce belong only to the rich."
Despite the overwhelming wave of criticism, a small fraction of viewers stepped up to defend her remarks, arguing that financial stability should matter while planning parenthood. “She is right. Parenthood should be qualified. You cannot bring someone into the world if you cannot take care of them," another user commented.
However, that defense was swiftly shut down by others who questioned the fundamental mechanics of wealth creation. One of the reactions criticised the economics behind the statement itself, firing back: “N*ggas supporting ‘ameeri badhegi’ should be asked how can be capital created out of thin air." Other users chimed in to remind supporters that the wealthy rely entirely on the labour of the working class to maintain their riches.
Ultimately, Madhuri’s controversial secret saved her from the chopping block, leading to the eviction of Shresta Iyer. But while Madhuri may have secured another week inside the ‘Lock Upp’ jail, she now faces a massive public relations nightmare in the outside world.
