In a shocking revelation that has taken the television industry by surprise, actress Akanksha Chamola has confirmed that she and her husband, actor Gaurav Khanna, are ending their marriage. The bombshell announcement was made during the grand premiere of ‘Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa Season 2’ on Netflix, leaving fans and the show’s hosts, Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, entirely stunned. When presented with an option to share a confidential secret about her life during the premiere, the actress – known for her roles in ‘Santoshi Maa’, ‘Yeh Hai Aashiqui’, and ‘Crime Patrol’ – didn't hold back.

She revealed that their separation has actually been under wraps for quite some time. “Me and Gaurav are getting a divorce. We have been living separately for the last one year and it's not been public,” Akanksha shared on the reality show stage.

The couple, who reportedly met and fell in love during an audition, tied the knot in a lavish three-day wedding celebration in Gaurav's hometown of Kanpur on November 24, 2016. Addressing the exact nature of their split, Akanksha clarified that the decision was amicable. “Things are not bad between me and Gaurav. We still talk to each other. We don't think we are compatible as partners because we both see a very different future. And, unfortunately, it's not with each other,” she explained.

Signs of trouble first appeared earlier this year in January when Akanksha shared a cryptic Hindi post on social media that roughly translated to: “When a relationship is built only on needs, it is the heart that is always sacrificed.”

In a subsequent episode of ‘Lock Upp 2’, while speaking with co-contestant Shreya Kalra about her current relationship status and whether she is looking to fall in love, Akanksha made it clear she is not rushing into anything new. “I don't want to fall in love so soon I want to take my time. I got married really young, at 24. Maine literally utna kuch explore or enjoy kiya nahi he and now after 10 years of being in a good relation I have my free time to explore so I don't want to get into anything else,” she stated.

The news comes on the heels of Gaurav’s recent victory in ‘Bigg Boss 19’. During that show, he had a heartfelt, candid chat in the garden area with YouTuber Mridul Tiwari about their marriage. When asked about fatherhood, Gaurav first noted, "We will complete 9 years in November." He then defended his wife's choice not to have children, saying, “No, my wife doesn't want. I want, but it's a love marriage. Whatever she says, manna padega. Pyaar kiya hai toh nibhaana toh padega.”

Backing her decision, Gaurav elaborated, “Her thinking is also valid. There are a lot of responsibilities. And it's only two of us for each other. If I go for work the entire day and she also gets work, with whom will we keep the kids? We don't want anyone else to take care of them. I had told her that I want, but I understood when she explained.”

Currently, Gaurav is participating in ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi 15’ and has yet to comment on the divorce. Meanwhile, Akanksha continues her stint on ‘Lock Upp Season 2’ – which streams Saturday to Wednesday at 8 PM. Interestingly, it was revealed that she and co-contestant Harshad Chopda used a lifeline to remain safe for the first week of the reality show, which features a loaded roster of inmates including Sunita Ahuja, Ram Kapoor, Shivangi Joshi, Akanksha Choudhary, Yogesh Rawat, Riyaz Ali, Dheeraj Dhoopar, Sreshta Iyer, and Sufi Motiwala.
