Simran Hails Tamil Nadu’s Democratic Spirit As New CM Vijay Meets MK Stalin
Tamil Nadu’s new Chief Minister Vijay met his predecessor and DMK chief MK Stalin. Actress Simran hailed the move.
The political landscape of Tamil Nadu witnessed a massive and highly talked-about moment this Monday as the state's newly elected Chief Minister, C Joseph Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay), stepped out to make a highly significant courtesy call. Following his triumphant victory in the recent Assembly elections, the new CM visited the Alwarpet residence of his predecessor, DMK President MK Stalin. This much-publicized interaction marked Vijay’s very first face-to-face meeting with Stalin since formally assuming the office of the Chief Minister.

Putting the heat of the recent elections firmly behind them, Stalin, alongside his son Udhayanidhi Stalin, extended a warm welcome to the state's new leader. The meeting was rich in traditional courtesy and respect. The two formidable leaders honoured one another by exchanging beautiful silk shawls and a bouquet.

Adding a layer of historical significance to the encounter, Udhayanidhi gifted Vijay a special book chronicling the DMK’s extensive political journey, titled ‘Kalathin Niram Karuppu Sivappu-DMK 75’.

The internet was extremely quick to react to the images of the meetup, but the most notable voice of praise came from actress Simran. Taking to her X account, Simran eagerly re-shared Stalin’s post about the meeting, completely captivated by the display of mutual respect. She reacted by saying, “Beyond politics, it's the warmth and dignity in leadership that truly inspires. This gesture speaks volumes about unity, maturity and Tamil Nadu's democratic spirit.”
This certainly isn’t the first time Simran has vocalised her immense support for the new Chief Minister. When Vijay officially took his oath of office, Simran was front and centre with her praises on social media. She previously wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to my dear friend, the people's leader and true Jana Nayagan, Thiru Vijay avargal, on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Today is not just historic, it marks the beginning of a powerful new era.”
The warmth of this Monday meeting stands in stark contrast to the fiercely acrimonious electoral battle fought between the DMK and Vijay’s TVK party leading up to the April 23 polls. Ultimately, TVK emerged victorious, securing the Chief Minister seat for Vijay. In his own social media post reflecting on the courtesy call, Stalin confirmed the cordial nature of the visit, writing, “Honourable Mr. Vijay, who has assumed the role of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, met me with political courtesy and received my greetings. I extended to him my heartfelt congratulations as well as my advice.”
While the recent photos show smiles and the exchanging of shawls, the transition of power hasn't been without its sharp political messaging. Following Vijay's win and his initial announcements upon taking office, Stalin offered a mix of congratulations and stern guidance. The former CM publicly challenged the new administration regarding state finances.
“Don't start saying right away that the government has no money. It does have it. What's needed is the will to give it to the people, and the ability to govern,” Stalin previously declared in a post on X. Holding his ground, Stalin reminded the new government that the DMK had “clearly explained” the financial position of the Tamil Nadu government during the February budget. He issued a pointed message to his successor regarding his campaign: “Didn't you know that? It was only after that you gave various promises to the people? Don't deceive the people who voted for you again and try to divert the issue!”
Despite the underlying political complexities and warnings, the recent courtesy call remains a major talking point, with fans and actors alike celebrating the dignified exchange between two of the state's most prominent figures.
