‘Jana Nayagan’ Gets Major Makeover! Producer Reveals New Songs, ‘CM Vijay’ Title Card
Producer K Venkata Narayana revealed that ‘Jana Nayagan’ has undergone major changes after its lengthy CBFC process, with new songs, extensive edits and a historic title card.
The wait is almost over for Thalapathy fans, but the movie hitting theatres is not quite the one we were initially expecting! After a gruelling six-month battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), producer K Venkata Narayana of KVN Productions has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated ‘Jana Nayagan’ has undergone massive reworks. Scheduled for a spectacular worldwide release on July 23, this final cinematic outing for Vijay is gearing up to be an unprecedented historical event in Indian cinema.
Submitted to the censor board late last year with the certification battle commencing in January, the film spent its delay undergoing active modifications rather than just gathering dust. Fans can expect a significantly refreshed experience. Elaborating on the extensive edits, Venkata Narayana stated, “There have been a lot of modifications and additions to the film. What audiences are going to experience in theatres is very different, with the addition of some songs and several changes. This movie has gone through many challenges since the beginning of the year to reach where it is today.”
Perhaps the most buzz-worthy alteration isn't just the new musical numbers, but a groundbreaking title card. In a move never before seen in Indian cinematic history, Vijay will not simply be credited as an actor. Instead, the screen will introduce him as “The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu” in and as ‘Jana Nayagan’. While legends like MGR, NTR, and Jayalalithaa shifted from the silver screen to politics, none had a theatrical film release while actively serving as a sitting Chief Minister.
Explaining this monumental decision, Venkata Narayana revealed it was driven by the masses. “There have been requests from various sections of fans and the general audience to change the title card to 'The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu' in and as Jana Nayagan. Even the poster featuring that change received a phenomenal response,” he noted. “It is historic for a currently serving Chief Minister to have his film released, so we have made some changes. See it in theatres.”
The scale of the release perfectly matches the historic nature of the project. The KVN Productions team is pushing for what could be the widest release ever for a Tamil film. “We announced the poster only yesterday, and by tomorrow we will have the final screen count in India. The film is releasing in almost all major cities and across more than 30 countries worldwide. We are targeting a release on 7,000 to 8,000 screens globally,” Venkata Narayana shared.
The box office frenzy has already begun. Advance bookings have kicked off in several states, with Karnataka opening sales on Wednesday morning for shows starting as early as 6 am on July 23. Tamil Nadu audiences can start booking their tickets this Sunday, while international markets will ramp up as the final screen count locks in.
Directed by H. Vinoth and featuring a stellar ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani, the film is backed by a sure-to-be blockbuster soundtrack from Anirudh Ravichander.
The emotional weight of the release is palpable behind the scenes, too. The producer confirmed direct coordination with the Chief Minister himself regarding the rollout. “I have discussed the release date and plans with CM Vijay. He and the entire team have put in a lot of hard work and emotion behind this film. People will witness the effort that everybody has put into it,” he expressed.
As for the final verdict, the producer remains incredibly confident in the magic of Thalapathy's farewell film. “I'm sure once it releases, the audience will embrace it and celebrate it because cinema is a shared experience. At the end of the day, it's the last film of Vijay sir, and they will create lasting memories and experiences for themselves in theatres,” he concluded, adding, “Thalapathy Vijay shares a great bond with audiences, from Tamil Nadu to across the globe and across generations.”
