Marvel fans in India on Wednesday received a festive surprise, with Hollywood superstars Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans extending their Diwali wishes. The duo brought exciting news about the next installment of the 'Avengers' franchise, confirming that 'Avengers: Doomsday' will be hitting the theatres in India before the USA. The Russo Brothers-directed film will release on December 17 in the country, a day ahead of its scheduled US release, giving audiences in the country an early opportunity to witness Marvel's latest superhero spectacle.
Marvel India shared a special video featuring Robert Downey Jr, who will portray Doctor Doom, and Evans, who returns as Steve Rogers. The two actors greeted Indian audiences on the occasion of Diwali, adding a celebratory touch to the growing excitement surrounding the upcoming film.
"Namaste India! What we love about Diwali is it marks the closing of one chapter and beginning of another…that’s something we know a lot about, except instead of moving from dark to light, I think it might be going in the other direction…Happy Diwali and we will see you in Avengers: Doomsday …You Bet," said the duo in the video message.

Downey Jr's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already generated considerable interest, although his latest role marks a dramatic departure from the character that made him the face of the franchise for more than a decade. The actor, who became synonymous with Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, is stepping into the shoes of Doctor Doom, one of Marvel's most formidable villains.
During Disney's D23 fan event in the United States, Downey Jr appeared alongside Evans and Hayley Atwell, who are also returning to the MCU. Reflecting on his experience playing the antagonist, the actor described the unusual feeling of being on the opposite side from his fellow performers.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, 'Avengers: Doomsday' is expected to unite heroes from different corners of the Marvel universe as they confront an extraordinary threat. The film features an expansive ensemble, including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright and Paul Rudd, alongside Downey Jr. Atwell is also among the returning cast members.
The Russo brothers, who previously directed 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame', also returned to helm the ambitious project. The screenplay has been written by longtime Marvel collaborator Stephen McFeely, while Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito and Jonathan Schwartz are producing the film.
Although Marvel has kept several story details under wraps, the scale of the cast and the return of familiar characters have fuelled anticipation among fans eager to discover how the franchise's next chapter will unfold.
