'Afsaana Banaaya Aapne', the first song from 'Gunmaaster G9', was unveiled on Wednesday and it brings together actor Emraan Hashmi, music composer-singer Himesh Reshammiya and filmmaker Aditya Datt, nearly two decades after the trio collaborated on 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne'. Written and composed by Himesh Reshammiya, the song is performed by Himesh and Asees Kaur. Rather than leaning entirely on nostalgia, the melody establishes the romantic side of 'Gunmaaster G9', a film that combines action, romance and thriller elements. The song had already generated curiosity after a brief glimpse appeared towards the end of the movie’s teaser.
The accompanying visuals feature Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh, offering audiences a glimpse of their characters’ emotional equation. Emraan plays Eshwar, while Genelia portrays Aarti. Their pairing forms the centre of the song, with the romantic sequences providing a striking contrast to the action-heavy world suggested by the film’s promotional material. Aparshakti Khurana, who plays Desu, is also part of the film’s principal cast.

The song’s biggest talking point, however, remains the reunion behind the music. Emraan Hashmi, Himesh Reshammiya and Aditya Datt previously worked together on ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ in 2005, making 'Afsaana Banaaya Aapne' a deliberate nod to a much-loved phase of Hindi film music. Their return also gives the song an additional layer of familiarity for listeners who followed their earlier collaborations.
With 'Afsaana Banaaya Aapne', the makers have placed romance at the heart of the film’s musical introduction while bringing back a combination associated with Bollywood’s mid-2000s soundtrack era.
For Emraan Hashmi and Himesh Reshammiya, it is a reunion; for 'Gunmaaster G9', the song offers audiences an early look at the softer emotional world running alongside its action narrative.
“The tracks of Gunmaaster G9 are completely in sync with the world of the film. To compose such great, audio-friendly tracks while being true to the story was a task. Working with Aditya is always a pleasure, as he has a great understanding of music," Himesh said in an official statement.
On the other hand, Emraan said, "There is a lot of nostalgia attached to Himesh, Aditya and me coming together again. But the idea was never to recreate the past. ‘Afsaana Banaaya Aapne’ has its own emotion and its own place in Gunmaaster G9."
'Gunmaaster G9' is directed by Aditya Datt and produced by Deepak Mukut, Hunar Mukut and Sangeeta Ahir. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 27, 2026. Its promotional material positions the film as an action-driven entertainer with romance and drama at its core. Emraan and Himesh previously worked together on 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' and 'Dil Diya Hai'.
Speaking of Emraan, the Bollywood star is riding on the success of 'Awarapan 2', which minted close to Rs 150 crore at the domestic box office. The film gave Emraan his first solo hit in more than 12 years.
